All about $500 and change (less for CZ), all polymer (except CZ=Steel), all reliable. Some people shy away from S&W but I like my 2.

The Glocks are probably the best selling 9mm in the world.

FNP-9M 15 rounds, very tight package for CCW and can be had from CDNN for $389 (less for the DAO version). Great pistol.

CZ 75D PCR, 14 rounds, again a very tight package for CCW but nice shooter, alloy frame, looks beautiful with CZ wood grips, takes to fine tuning very well. 15# mainspring is easy to install and you won't look back after putting it in. Any CZ in 9mm is going to be fantastic though. And Mec-Gar magazines are widely available and pretty cheap at $20 apiece. Very competitive, factory magazine manufacturer.

Glock 19, another 15 rounder, magazines are inexpensive and plentiful, rugged, the smooth sides make it great for CC, despite its somewhat blocky look the slide sits very low, tight package, like the FNP and CZ they are exceedingly reliable, if you are a member of the military, police, firefighter, emt, etc etc basically any public servant you can take advantage of Glocks Homeland Security package, which is a stock Glock 9/40/357 model for $398.20 with three magazines, you can order about anything Glock makes from the same order form.

The PCR can be used with CZs excellent Kadet Kit, the FNP comes with three magazines, every holster ever made has a model specifically for the Glock, those are all very solid options.

XD 9 subcompact or service. I've put 500 rounds through my XD 9 sc w/ no failures and various FMJ and JHP ammo.

C'mon, give the Sigs some lovin'. I don't think you could go wrong with a P226. Plenty of people carry them concealed, and mine's never failed to go bang on me yet.


Incidentally, Mec-Gar supplies OEM mags for Sig (among others), so mag availability is a non-issue.

I love Mec-Gar, they are the greatest magazine maker of all.

+1 ..is easy to find rentals to see which fits your hand better(as most ranges have them) ..also very rugged and reliable.
My G19 is very accurate also..(contrary to what some may believe)

I love my G19. There are a lot of Glock Haters around here but I have never once had a single issue.

If you are looking for range AND CC use in a 9mm, it's tough to go wrong with a Glock 19 or 26. Butt ugly, but they go BANG every time you pull the trigger, and that is ALL you have to do .. pull the trigger.

I started looking for a 19, but found a very nice used 26 for a good price and have been very happy with it.

My vote goes for the Glock 19

I agree mgkdrgn. Glock 26 in the MTAC holster is the go to weapon of choice.

Pay your money and take your chances. I like just about all of them, Glocks, Sigs, HKs, S&Ws. My favorite for CC is the Sig 239 but you need to decide what fits you best.

A used S&W semiauto. I love my Model 59.

sa xd would be my first choice, i have 2 and they are awesome. also a glock 19 would be another great choice.

You like 1911's, so I understand not liking the grip angle/sight picture of a Glock. I'm in the same boat.

Being mostly a 1911/revolver guy myself, I'd say the three that will work best for you are the High Power, Sig 226/229 or 250, or a CZ.

You might also like a HK or Beretta (look at the Taurus PT92 for a Beretta clone with 1911-placed controls), but you might find the grips oversized for your taste.

You could also find a 9mm 1911-pattern, but for me, after being ingrained in .45acp and .357magnum, if I carry a 9mm, I want a few more rounds. RIA makes a well-priced .38 super that can convert to 9mm with a simple barrel swap.

What the doctor ordered, but good luck on finding one of these. It is the best HK I have ever fired.

i've been looking closely at sig, as i've used a 220. is the usa 226 as good as the german ones?

In my opinion they are better than the older stamped carbon steel slide models. The newer ones are made using a machined stainless steel slide.

However, you mentioned wanting a general use 9mm. I recommend getting a compact pistol then like the Glock 19, Sig P229, or H&K P30 as its size gives you the best overall balance between compact size and full sized pistol handling characteristics.
