.22 with good sights?

Hard to say without knowing how much you want to spend.

CB ammo pretty much restricts you to manually operated rifles like bolt or lever-action. CB caps will not cycle a semi-auto.

That could be a simple single-shot, all the way up to a Marlin 39A or CZ-452 depending on your price range.

BTW: Fiber optic sights are not the most accurate sights out there.

A fine black bead front with a peep or notch rear will outshoot them from a pure accuracy standpoint.

Some of the fiber optics glow so bright they wash out small targets to where you have a hard time seeing them.

CZ 452 Trainer if it's in your budget should fill your needs.

I've heard that the irons on a Thompson Center are some of the best factory irons ever to come standard on a .22, but I haven't seen them yet.

It's a little outside your price range new ($335-340) but you could loo for a used Savage Mark I or Mark II FVT. It comes factory equipped with Lyman peep sights.

I'll second that the Mossberg M44 trainer that mgkdrgn mentioned would fit the bill nicely as well.

Remington Model Five has fully adjustable rear sight... is affordable, and quite accurate...

The CZ 452 Ultra Lux using CB shorts is quieter than my Beeman R9 pellet rifle. The Aguila Super Colibri is even quieter. Not very accurate at all with those light rounds though. They are meant for very short range anyway.

This would be a great choice for open or peep sights because of the long sight radius with the 28" barrel.

cz, or remington, are about the only rifles under 500, with fully adjustable, rear sights.

Ah yes... the Romainian M-69.
these imported, retired military trainers from the Romainian army are excellent little rifles...

Other than the safeties, these rifles are great shooters, exhibiting superb accuracy-

The cost, retail, of one of these retired generals should be in the neighborhood of $120 to $150.

Hooded, post type front sight and a simple, flip down, three leaf, square knotch style rear sight. Rear sight calibrations have varied but most were calibrated,
25m, 50m and 100m... each leaf respectively.

Bolt action, 5 round detachable magazine fed, full sized stocks and a true, European Bloc, 2-stage, military trigger. Blued( very nice, I may add) metal, 21" light sporter taper barrel.

These rifles do have what 'looks' like a dovetail grooved receiver, however the dovetail is not for scope mounting but to inhibit light reflextions.

All in all, a great buy....

If not the war horse, I should think the CZ 452 Trainer would be my next choice.

Remington 5/Charles Daly Superior II...... great sights, in your price range(if you can find one). Any base Marlin or Savage would be affordable and accurate and.......
For what it's worth, just about any 22 sight will knock off your prey after you become accustomed to them... practice will train you/him to use them effectively.

I'd grab a pre accutrigger Savage Mark IIF from Walmart for $117 and add a 4x scope and be under 200 total.

I agree with the ones that say the CZ is the way to go.

The iron sights on the CZ are the best ones out there.

Its amazing what you can hit with one at 200 yards. And then slide the sights back to 25 yards or anything in between in just a second.

That CMP M44 US is right at the LOW end of your price range at $175, and a piece of history to boot.

Oh, and I actually shot some of those "colibri" rounds (thats the 60 grain bullet, right?) out of my M44 before I sold it. Shot them just fine, no key holing.

More than half a century ago, I noticed that the ducks that lived in our pond were disappearing. A little investigation revealed that snapping turtles were getting the ducklings.

So of an evening, my brother and I and my cousin would sit on the bank of the pond and shoot at the heads of the snapping turtles as they came up for air. I think we killed one.

After I was commissioned in the Army, I bought a scope for my .22, came home on leave and killed a dozen or more.

I've got lots of rifles with peeps, including a Model '94 Winchester, an M1922 Springfield, a Remington 541X, an M1 Garand and a couple of M1903A3s.

But for general all around shooting, I recommend a scope.
