Anyone have an AR-15 style rifle and shoot low power .22 rounds
in it via a .22 adapter or a .22 upper?

I'm thinking it would be pretty neat to shoot .22 shorts or Aguila
Super Colibri .22's out of an AR-15 in the backyard, just for regular
old shootin or the occasional squirrel.

Surely I'm not the only guy out there thinkin this same thought...

I don't recall asking if it will feed reliably, or if anyone could supply a
link to a manufacturer of subcaliber adapters.

I asked if anyone else out there is actually doingthe same thing
that I'm thinking of.

Shooting low powered .22's from a bolt-action rifle in the backyard
is great fun. It would be neat to apply the same principle to your AR-15
just for fun and games.

Don't reply if you're just looking to rack up a post, or simply like to see
yourself type. Remember, Signal:Noise.

Wow! After displaying that attitude I don't think anyone's going to want to help you out.

I know I'm sure not, and I know a heck of a lot about .22's in AR15's.

The guy tries to help you, maybe not in the precise manner you demand, and you unload on him. What a tool.

To get back to the question----I have found that in my very slick, well broken in Ceiner that CCI subsonic will run the action with only a slight drop in reliability.About one shot in 30 FTE. CCI makes a CB long that feeds just like a regular LR but I can't believe it would be anything but a single shot proposition.
The Subsonics are fairly quiet and deadly accurate out of the Ceiner,They will shoot groups 1/2 or 1/3 the size of most high velocity ammo.
I also get similar great groups with standard velocity target type ammo which is somewhat more quiet than the high velocity.
I think I will head to my clubs indoor range today (rainy here in CT) and try some CB longs

I shoot Colibri .22 using the Ciener conversion. It doesn't cycle of course and it doesn't feed very reliably either, because the colibri's are not as long as .22LR. Still, you can do it, I shoot them in the basement sometimes just for fun.

If you have neighbors I wouldn't recommend shooting an AR15 in the backyard. "Hello, 911, there's a 13 year old kid next door pointing an M16 at my house". Oh, you're not 13, sorry, I would have guessed it from your response.

ouch!... anyway, in my experience, i have single fire shot supers out of a 22 inch semi auto bbl, and colibri's out of a 16 inch bbl. both rounds barley make it out, and are good for about a 10 to 15 yd shot.

One thing you might want to consider is that the rate of twist in MOST ARs is a lot faster than the RoT in most 22 rimfires, meaning you'll probably get a lot more leading in your barrel; if you were to fire a bunch of soft 22s, then take the conversion unit out and fire a 223, you could be looking at a partial bore obstruction scenario, in the worst case.

armi jaeger AP74 is what you want. looks just like an AR 15 from 10 yards, and the blowback spring can be replaced with a lighter one from the hardware store for low powered stuff. cost you about 400$, though.

+1

Justa; wow you are right about the jaeger, forgot all about those beauties, they even did a few in 22 mag if I recall. I've never seen one here in Houston, but would proly pick one up if I ever did. They received glowing reports, everytime I read about them. just hard to find.
