Wolf Springs would be a place to get a new recoil spring

Try a medium weight Speer Gold Dot JHP for expansion

Double Tap - started with full power 10mm AUto loads

Speer Gold Dots open, but some evidence suggests too much, at real 10mm speeds.

I've moved to XTP in my 10mm handguns. Hornady states the 180gr XTP is designed for speeds between 700 and 1500 ft/sec. The 200gr, between 700 and 1200 ft/sec.

FYI - I collected current prices of a couple of known
get the 10mm stuff that is full power.

Note: I like the Hornady XTP JHP as well. I wish it was
available 165 gr. but it's 155 gr. or 180 gr. and
my .40 cal doesn't work well with 180 gr. or heavier
bullets. I shoot .400 CorBon and the short neck of
the bottle neck limits to a certain length limit

The Speer GD is overdriven for it's design
the XTP is being driven hard enough to reliably
open up and penetrate farther than the GD. in
my non-scientific wet magazines test.

Actually opening too much would lead to OVERpenetration... the "petals" would fold all the way back and you'd essentially have something like a FMJ projectile at that point.

I'm currently using the 165gr Gold Dots in my G29... Georgia Arms loads, though, so they are not loaded as hot as the DoubleTaps... I have some Barnes XP DoubleTaps on order, though, and will be curious to see how they compare. I've heard great things about them (well, the Corbon DPX load that is similar) but they certainly cost enough... :-/

Just use a conventional spring and not the dual springs. Springs don't solve problems they create them. Use a 20lb Wolff spring and change it out at regular intervals.

My carry load is 180gr Gold Dot handloaded to 1300fps. I have also carried a 180gr XTP to 1300fps as well. Right now I'm in a Gold Dot kick.

Why do you think dual springs would help? Why change something against conventional wisdom?

Let me jump right in this with no flame suit on. To me the 10mm is a high performance round. Under-rated by many. If I was a hog hunter this would be my gun of choice. In the self defense mode full house 10mm rounds are not controlable by most mortals and over penetration is the nature of the beast. I have to ask myself why? Just get a caliber that was designed for it"s intended purpose.

Well, I won't flame you for that...

10mm is definitely not for everyone... and perhaps more than most calibers, it requires regular practice to stay up with.

However, it does allow the widest range of loads of any semiauto caliber, which makes it great for the "one gun" types. Care must simply be given to choosing the right load for where the gun may be used...

My personal preference is always for the standard 1911 guide rod... I like being able to break the gun down without extra tools.

i have the 2 spring efk in my glock 20 and shoot light and heavy loads and functions great (glock hates me for putting it in). the .40 s&w barrel is one i have as .40 s&w is cheaper to shoot at idpa and a .357 Sig is coot too but cost too much for ammo up north.heck i just got a threaded 10mm barrel for the glock 20 and plan to suppress it (have some winchester 180gr jhp sub-sonics to try). love the 10mm just need a rifle in it i can afford. i shoot 180gr out of the glock and shoots great (hydra shok and win) but want to try some double tap some time (anyone want to donate me some to try??? LOL). keep up the info and long live the 10mm auto
