I got my Dillon 550b in last Wednsday night, got it setup for 9mm, and I've allready gone through about 2 lbs of Unique and 2.5K primers smiley_abused.gif .

Loading 4.8 gr Unique, Missouri Bullets 115 gr "Parabellum", mixed cases, Wolf SM Pistol Primers, these were done off and on throghout the day (today).....

This is alot easier (and faster) than my Lee Classic Turret.... icon_smile_big.gif

The tool heads for .380 and .223 are on the way, along with a RT1200 and a .223 trim die. icon_smile_wink.gif

I think the Glock, the LCP and my AR are going to be well fed!!! icon_smile_cool.gif

I think it's time to take some more classes, because I'm going to run out of empty brass soon..... smiley_abused.gif

Thanks for looking,,, Dave

Only 2 pounds? C'mon, get with the program!!! Just rememebr to go in for dinner once in a while.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Dillons. You will wonder why you ever used anything else. Well, maybe after 2 pounds of Unique, you know.

So, where's a good place to buy Dillons? I'd like to at least look at some in person if possible. I get good results from my Lee Classic Turret, but I keep thinking "four pulls for one round vs. one round per pull".

Twenty years later, I am still cranking on my Dillion 550B. :D

I have no idea how many rounds, and it must be in the 100,000's, that I have made on the thing.

I hope to be still cranking twenty years from now.

Forty at best. :D

Congratulations but I hope you verified the load before you loaded so many. It would be a real pain to pull all those bullets.

You Only Have To Buy Quality Once

Welcome to the Blue Side, Luke... Many high roaders use them, many do not, and most have opinions. Personally I have never met a Dillon user who was unhappy or chose to switch to any other brand of progressive. I have been running my 550 for 11 years now with zero problems not of my own making (save one shell plate that was undersize by a thousandth and made it difficult to put the case in, and which was replaced in less than a week after a call to Dillon). Dillon customer service has patiently and pleasantly helped me work through problems on several occasions, as I noted, not because of the equipment but because of operator issues. I am actually proud of it - it pleases me, puts out ammo as fast as I can shoot it and functions like one of Mike's machine guns...

Drive on!

I love my 550, the ONLY thing that bugs me about it, is occationally the primer catching door sticks open, and the cotter pin must be messed with to make the door close regularly again. Any tips on how to permanantly correct this?

I almost went blue in the beginning.... but it made more financial sense for a different route, for me, at that time.

Personally neither have I. But I have seen two here on THR since hanging out in this forum. Not bad odds for dillon!

@ flashhole: I've used this load before, I just loaded on my Lee Classic Turret.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!!!... Now back to the man cave for me!!!!

+1, but I do know several who have "added" other brand presses to their Dillon collection. :D

Knowing what I know now, if I were to start over, I would have gotten a Dillon 1050.

There are a couple tips in the sticky at the top of the page. The 2 things I did was to put in a slightly larger cotter pin (requires larger holes of course), and hung a small super magnet on top of the chute, on the operator side.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Classic Cast O frame for rifle brass prep. Really hate tying up a workhorse machine on something mundane that could be done at a leisurely pace when the good weather heads south.

I have credit card in hand and about to buy a Square Deal for reloading pistol cartridges

Should I buy a 550 instead?

If so...why?

I would go with the 550 or better yet the 650.

The square deal uses proprietary dies, only available from Dillon, and only usable in the Sqare Deal.

If you ever decide to load rifle rounds (and you probably will eventually), you can't do it on a Sqare Deal.

Rondog, as far as I know dillion doesn't has retail dealers, I know how it is to want to get your hands on something before buying. I got my 650 from a family member who stopped shooting so I have never had anything else! I talk to people at the range who complain about the long hours of reloading they do... I reload about 30-40 hours per year between 5 calibers!

Actually, I can crank out more rounds with my Lee Classic than I have the time to shoot anyway. Much easier/quicker to go to the basement and make ammo than it is to make a day to spend at the range. I've got enough components to keep me yankin' on the press for months.

Checkout brianenos.com Great source for Dillon products and info. Bought my 550 through him, quick shipper, very happy!
