Need help choosing a couple semi-autos

I could really use advice, so thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and respond.

So the microstamping bill has passed the NY assembly and since the Dems recently took control of the Senate I'm concerned it will become law. I'd like to buy a couple semi-autos before they become much more expensive here (maybe get ahead of the buying frenzy).

Here's what I'm thinking and I'd like to get opinions and recommendations. I'd like to get one high-capacity handgun and one easily concealed handgun. High-capacity magazines manufactured after September 1994 are illegal, so the high-capacity handgun would have to be one that was in wide use prior to 9/94 so that pre-ban hi-cap mags would be readily available. I would prefer to minimize how many calibers I need to stock, so I'd like the two new guns to be the same caliber or at least one of them to be a .45acp (I already one an XD45). My wife has difficulty racking the slide on my XD45 but had no problem racking the slide on a Glock 9mm (not sure which one; it belonged to her shooting instructor). I'm also not looking to drop a lot of cash, but want quality. I'd like to keep the total cost under $1k.

Given all of this, I'm thinking two 9mm Glocks would probably be my best bet. One full size that would accept pre-ban mags and one of the smallest. Pre-ban mags for Glocks should be the easiest to find; my wife should be able to rack the slides; cost should be under $1k; and there is little doubt that they will be reliable and last for the long haul.

So here are my questions:

1. Which Glocks should I be looking at? Are there two models that fit the bill above and could share lower capacity mags?
2. What other handguns should I consider?
3. Is my reasoning way off?
4. Anything else I should be thinking about?

#1: Forget the Glocks. I'm the first poster so why not?

#2 Get a 1911. If 8 rounds of 45 acp won't fix the problem you probably need a lawer or an undertaker.

#4: Yes, move to a more gun friendly state, my preference is Virginia, your's may be different.

Well another forum that has only 25% of the viewers has already produced several responses.

1. Thanks for your opinions in items #1 and #2, not much I can do with that though.
2. Regardings #3, yes, semi-autos will still exist in NY, but they will be more expensive.
3. I'd love to move to get away from the taxes and anti-gun laws, but I'll deal with this so my kids can know their grandparents.

I would buy sooner rather than later and that includes hicap magazines.

I'm doing my research this morning and it appears that a magazine from a G17 will fit a G26 by adding a spacer, but that a magazine for the G26 will not fit a G17, is that right? If so, maybe two G26s might be the way to go.

Just a thought, you have a full size gun in your xd45, why not get a glock 26 for you to conceal and take the wife to a gun shop to find the gun she likes best to conceal and/or whatever other types of usage you anticipate.

Why the G19 instead of the G17 or G26? It seems that the tradeoff in these three is capacity, grip length and barrel length. So far, I'm leaning toward a G26 and getting a spacer if/when I find a pre-ban G19 or G17 mag.

I'd love to take my wife to the gun shop and have her pick out a handgun. She has her CCW permit and she has enjoyed shooting her Hi-standard .22lr. She's just not that into shooting right now - or more accurately she has so many other things to do that shooting just doesn't make it to the top of the list. I'm trying to plan ahead and get something that will work for me and will likely be acceptable for her. It's not ideal, I know.

The 19 is a dimensional compromise but many view it as the ideal size to be acceptable for both CCW and HD/range purposes. I'm capable of CCWing a pistol that size but I find smaller guns (such as the 26) much more comfortable and easier to conceal, to the point that IMO, it is worth the trade off in capacity and shootability.

I guess I quoted the wrong post. I completely understand why one would recommend the G26 over the other choices as you did. I meant to quote Haifisch's post in which he recommended the G19 rather than a G17. I was wondering just wondering why the G19 instead of a G17.
