Nice....Sig P238 Copperhead

They're definitely still having issues, but if you get one that works they're pretty nice shooters. From everything I've been seeing it looks as though about one out of every ten is a lemon. I must admit, I like the looks of that one.

I can only speak for myself and my P238. Mine has been 100% from the first round and I love shooting it.

Mine was not an early production and that may have a bearing on it's perfect reliability.

If they'd make those in .32acp or Makarov, I'd buy one immediately. But having no use for .380 makes it hard to purchase one ... maybe in .32NAA?

How is 32 acp better than 380?

It seems like a lot of complaints are about the recoil spring. If placed backwards it wears out real quick and even placed correctly it wears out soon. Buy a handful of them for replacements, shoot till one fails, then replace them a little sooner than that in the future. Really nice little pistol.

It isn't in many ways, but .380 doesn't do anything that 9x19 won't and I prefer .32 for mouseguns.
It will fit more rounds in, and it does deliver similar muzzle energy in a lower-recoil package, plus .32acp actually exists, while sometimes .380acp seems to be made from unicorn horn or something.
And I stock .32 but not .380

And .32NAA is superior to .380acp, I'd probably pick up the SIG if it were in .32NAA and I could find the ammo relaibly ... I like the mini-1911 guns and have been kicking myself for not picking up a Llama in .32acp a few gun shows back (I know it would need some TLC to run reliably, but it was just so damn adorable!)

Well, I prefer 9x19 to 9x17, actually.
But if I'm going to get into mousegun territory, I'll take 7.65x17mm over the 9x17 every time, all you get in a mousegun is penetration, I'll take many small deep holes over less small shallow ones.

But shoot what you like, and thank me for leaving you some 9x17 ammo next time you're picking up a box.

How much penetration do you need?

I have seen a number of reports of shootings where 380 fmj rounds were through and through in center mass hits.

Back on track, my P238 is a good shooter, very reliable with hollowpoint ammunition. Very low recoil for it's size due to the tilting barrel design, less recoil than my delayed blow back P232 SIG. One of its best features is the tritium night sights, something a SD pistol needs IMO. My only problems were with the factory mag with FTF, it works flawlessly with Colt magazines at about half the price of the SIG.

Cute little penny-colored gun. I have to say though: I'd much rather have seen sig expend energy completely dialing in the first guns instead of releasing a gazillion variants over the top of complaints.

But hey, mine has been a flawless joy for hundreds of rounds, once I exchanged the defective early magazines, so consider me a fan.

With a slight grip change that gun would be gorgeous!
I have no fear of the P238 as ive owned one and learned to tweak it to make it run perfect and put over 600 rounds threw it flawlessly after an initial 50 rounds.
Most of these guns have feed issues and need mag tweaking.
Ive read sig has made changes in mags and springs and i feel they are working on issues and i would have no issue buying another P238 as long as i can find one i can afford again.

I have owned mine for about 3 months now and initially had a problem with the slide latch when I slowly cycled the slide...it would catch in the takedown notch and lock the gun until I pressed the latch toward the frame. Once I took a slight "bend" out of the latch spring that was pressing the latch outward it became flawless. Fit/finish and reliability are very good.

Love mine so far!

Mine is an HD, the only 238 with a stainless frame. All the rest are aluminum alloy. It works perfectly.

Never had any issues with mine.

That one is definitely interesting looking.

I determined that mine is going back to get work done to it. Video of the gun jamming and a pic of what it does to the casings not every time but two per mag on average.

My P238, purchased in March 2010, was the "one in ten" that had problems; but once I disassembled it, I found some easily-corrected issues, corrected them, and have been well pleased with the pistol since.

If you're conversant with the workings of the Gov't Model, it's easy to maintain & otherwise work on the P238. Recoil springs can be troublesome, but a search of this forum will contain information on a different recoil spring from a different firearm manufacturer.

Some will complain that an expensive firearm shouldn't require the corrective action & improvisation I have found necessary; but it's no big deal; incidentally, has anyone ever had to make changes in their new Gov't Model?

Mine shoots fine for the first couple of mags....then will FTE after that. I seems to be a cleaning problem, for after I clean and lub it, it's back to 100%. Guess I just better plan on stoping a threat with a couple of mags.

Hahaha. I thought I was the only one who preferred .32acp in pocket guns. I have a P3AT and P32. If I am not careful, I can easily limpwrist the P3AT. The P32 however has been flawless and I cannot seem to induce a malfunction even when I have tried to. It is also easy to shoot off handed.
The P32 therefore rides in the pocket fot backup duty every day.

Penetration talk is silly. Look into knife blade length laws and you will understand that several inches gets you to the vital organs. It drives me nuts hearing people talk about needing to shoot all the way through to the spine, etc. If I was carrying a single shot musket or derringer I can understand. But with a eight round pistol I will fire until my would-be murdered stops, runs away or expires. If it takes all eight so be it.

Glad to hear some other folks out there do not buy into the minimum caliber nonsense they are selling nowadays.

I would love one of these in .32 as it would have an extra round I would presume.

Trust me when I tell you that the P238 in it's 380 caliber is easier, more accurate and nicer to shoot in every way than your P32 in 32cal.

I won't even get into the penetration thing.
