Bought my first Sig today, a P238 Copperhead edition. Saw it and had to have it. Too pretty to pass up.

Here's the question: How should the thumb safety operate?

Full cock, safety off, pull trigger and the hammer drops, as it should.
Full cock, safety on, pull the trigger hammer stays put, again as it should.

So far so good.

Half cock, safety on, pull the trigger and the hammer drops. That's not correct is it?
Don't know yet if it will fire a round in that condition.

Plan to check other models and/or call Sig tomorrow, but thought you guys might save me some time and trouble.

Thanks in advance.

You made me grab my P238 and give it a try, same exact thing happens with hammer at half cock and the safety on, so I'd bet it's normal.

Supposedly, the hammer doesn't have enough oomf to ignite the primer in that position.

Personally, I think the only mistake SIG made here is having a half-cock notch at all.

Thanks for the quick responses. I figured someone, or someones here would have the answer. I think I'll still call Sig and complain. Maybe they'll put it in the manual so folks will be sure it's normal.

Thanks again.

From my understanding of the 1911 platform(and the p238/mustang is supposed to be a downsized one) the half cock notch is less of a manual safety now and more to catch the hammer if the sear were to ever slip for some reason.

Having had one for about 7mon.s. I was woundering how to carry this safely in your pocket or if you are carrying in a holster. Any suggestions?

The Copperhead came with a belt clip OWB holster. I'll try that some, but I carry my Ruger LCP and Kahr PM40 pistols in Nemesis Pocket Holsters most of the time. I tried the Sig in the one for the LCP and it doesn't go in far enough to cover the trigger. The holster for the PM40 is the right size, but too loose.

Generally I don’t do this—but -- I did today. Pulled out my 60% carry pistol, which is a P238 HDW ( the 40% is a LCP), but sometimes I carry both at the same time. No matter what I do, or, in what order I do it in, if the safety is on the hammer does not drop. If the safety is off and at ½ cock the hammer does not drop when I pull the trigger. This guy works perfect, every time, all the time. It shoots fantastic, handles like a dream, and yes I love it.

Guy with the pink grips- take off the tag on the laser:banghead:

You all have a nice day now-- you hear !!!
