What are your thoughts on the Sig P238 for a pocket carry gun and would you keep it cocked and locked? I have a P238 and is is the best shooting pocket pistol inhave tried but the SAO trigger makes me a little concerned about carrying cocked and locked. Since there is no de-cocker I debate on the best way to carry it.

I have no concerns about carrying mine cocked and locked in a pocket holster. The safety is quite positive, and it's not coming off by itself.

I like that pistol, although I don't own one. If I did, I'd carry it C&L, but probably in a belt holster rather than pocket. The sights are awesome, but aren't what I would like to see on a "pocket" pistol. For the pocket, I'd rather have something less likely to snag during the draw. YMMV.

I did get a Uncle Mikes pocket holster but I am still concerned about it. If you have shot one of these you know how short the trigger travel is when it is fired. I would have loved it with a de-cocker.

i know i will get flack for saying this, but I have one that I carry with one in the pipe and the hammer down with the safety on .It has a hammer block so it can't fire till the safety is off and the hammer cocked.

I carry C&L IWB and pocket using D.M. Bullard holsters, both of which cover the thumb safety.

I am extremely impressed with the Sig P238, especially over other pocket .380's.

I carry a Sig P238 C&L in my pocket holster. The only gun I wouldn't carry in a holster would be a DAO trigger... but I don't like DAO triggers.

I have a Crossbreed holster for it... but so far it's only been my backup to the 1911 on my hip.

Here's some thoughts on the Sig P238 for POCKET carry..

1. It does NOT have an ambidextrous safety. Therefore, you are limited to carrying it in the right pocket only. I am assuming that you are right-handed, carrying with one in the pipe and with the safety "on".

2. It does not conceal as well as the LCP (using pocket carry)....but it sure fires a lot better. Follow up shots are a breeze.

3. It makes a very comfortable and concealable IWB gun. I would opt on carrying IWB over pocket carry.

4. Super accurate for small gun. Very light recoil. Feels solid and well made.

5. For pocket carry, the Sig P238 will not work in jeans. Because the 238 is flat...it has a very recognizable "print" that screams "gun". Also, drawing it out quickly from the pocket is a bit slow. (for me) I would consider one of those super light Smith and Wesson j-frames instead (for pocket carry) and use the Sig P238 as your IWB gun.

Ok... here is some disclosure:
Yes, I would carry the Sig 238 IWB appendix style.
And yes, it is a little scary...since it is pointing at a very special place. :)

As you wish, but I find for me it is easier to rack the slide than cock the hammer.
So, I'd go for a full mag and none in the chamber.

I think I am with you, Guns and More. I plan to carry mine with nothing in the chamber. I guess that could be a little risky from a "ready" standpoint but not much different than taking it off safety.

I'm retired, and I'll just have to confess, that when I'm around the house I'll carry my Mustang (P238) in my pocket with a snap-cap in the pipe and a mag of +P's in the grip. I'll never rack the slide at home, but then when I do leave the house, it's cocked and locked in the wallet holster with all seven rounds.

I think it is beneficial to practice trigger control and presentation -- in a safe manner, of course -- whilst packing the pistol during routine days at home by myself. Presentation, safety and trigger control. Presentation, safety and trigger control. The stuff you just don't get enough of at the range.
