Please recommend one centerfile rifle for left hand non-hunter

I bought 2 left hand Winchester M70's in the pre-64 classic design in the late 90's. Excellent rifles, accurate, and I am completely satisfied with them.

You might want to look around for one of those.

That said, those are the only left handed bolt rifles I have with the rest being right handed. I am blind in my right eye so have to shoot left handed. I have never had an issue shooting a bolt rifle, or any other right handed rifle, left handed, with or without scopes.

You're thinking bolt-gun? and does that 750 include scope etc?

There aren't a lot of options in the LH category for range-work; but there are a couple for hunting. I'm not a fan of the lefty options from Remington and Tikka and Savage, and those are probably the only ones under 750. The Rugers are a bit heavy for hunting, but for a range gun, you might check them out.

I'm a lefty and have been looking for a Model 70 in a non-short-magnum chambering for quite a while. If and when you find one, 750 might cover used, but maybe not new guns. If and when you find one, buy it quick, or send me a PM on its location! The (New Haven-made) Winchester 70 lefties in the WSM chamberings are lightweight hunting rifles, that kick hard and heat up quickly, so not ideal for range shooting. Also the ammo ain't cheap...

I'd recommend that you take a look at the Swiss K31; a straight-pull bolt action that i find very easy to operate as a lefty. You can find a good K31 for 2-300, and the GP11 Swiss surplus ammo is great stuff and under 50 cents a round. If you do a search on THR, you'll find the K31 has a lot of fans. (however, the offset scope is not ideal for a lefty; but they are just about the most accurate rifle with irons out there anyway.)

There are more options that a lefty can use in the semi-auto category. What type is your .223 semi? Based on your screen name, I'm guessing AR-15; so i won't discuss those here. I have an M1A and a Saiga 308 that are great; the M1A is out of your price bracket, but worth saving up for; and the Saiga's price-tag fits your bill.

Stay away from the HK/PTR and FALs, (although out of your price range anyway) since they are the worst ergos for lefty operation, IMO.

Check out the Savage left hand line. My son just picked up a nice used LH Savage bolt action 243.

Just to be clear, you're asking about southpaw-friendly guns, not southpaw specific, correct?

I'll echo the previous posts -- consider a lever-action. I'm partial to Marlin. Or how about a Browning BLR? It's a lever-action with a box instead of tubular magazine. It can therefore fire "pointy" bullets: 243, 308, 30-06, etc.

A used Browning A-Bolt would be a good choice.

But as a lefty, when shooting from a bench, it doesn't make difference if the bolt is on the left or right to me. With some rifles, such a .22 LR, I prefer a right handed action.

M1 Garand. I don't know what they go for from CMP these days, but it would be worth saving a bit extra if necessary. The M1 Garand is a classic, with reasonable accuracy and excellent reliability. Not a lot of recoil, but enough to appreciate the full power rifle cartridge it fires. Not the easiest option to scope, but M2 surplus is (was) very cheap and the irons are very good. It's not just another "semi-auto .223" or tactical'd black rifle at the range, but eight rounds of semi-auto ought-six still lets you have some fun. And like the M1A, it is set up very well for a lefty.

I'm pretty sure Browning, Tikka and Winchester all built lefties from the get go. Might be hard to find ans the market seems smaller, so the number of used units will be too. But keep scrounging AuctionArms and GunBroker. Use search terms like left and the caliber you want?

Of course a Winchester 94 with top eject has no idea if you are left or right. It'll put hot brass on your hat either way Seems I vaguely remember a bottom eject too? Maybe an Ithica pump?

Why not go with an SKS? They eject to the right and front so the fired cases won't hit you in the face. They make good plinking guns and anybody can operate them.

I'm a southpaw and just bought an older (steel receiver) Browning lever action in 308. Any lever action will fit the bill, and you can find some BLRs in your price range.

The Ruger #1 is good, but again, you're close to the minimum re your price range. And that's without scope.

The left handed Remington 700 SPS in, say, 243 would also fit the bill. They average about $550 new on gunbroker which would allow you to get a used scope, also on gunbroker. It has a heavy barrel which is fine for benchrest shooting, and the 700 action can't be beat.

I second the Savage line. I think for what you describe your usage will be I would go with a .223. Accurate and fairly cheap to shot. You should be able to pick one up and still have money for a decent scope to put on it.

rimfirecentral has a nearly complete list of all left hand specific rifles under "lefty choice". Might be worth checking out as a starting point.

I'm a leftist too and I picked a Savage 116 in .223. Since I already have a ranch rifle in .223, getting the bolt action in .223 was a natural choice.

In contrast with desidog, I like the FAL because is seems left friendly to me.

I own, or have owned, just about every left-hand bolt-action made in the last thirty years. Anschutz, Browning A-Bolt (hated it!), Remington 700s, Savage 10 and 110, Winchester M-70s, Weatherby Mark V, etc.

At your price point, Savage, Remington, and Ruger make decent rifles. The Winchester and Weatherby cost more than $750, typically. Browning, Blaser, etc. cost even more.

Get a Savage 10FLP .223 or .308, and a mid-range Nikon or Leupold scope, and have some fun.

Get the original left handed rifle get a Savage. They are very accurate, extreamly dependable, and the non-accustock models are not expensive right now. I have now owned three of them and I have been very pleased with everything about them. Much better then my Rem 700s or my Winchester 70

Are you looking for something different than another .223 rifle or are you looking for commonality? If you're not going to shoot beyond 100 yards, the .223 is the prefect cartridge. Are you thinking of a casual paper puncher, of a more serious target type rifle?

T/C encore .223 or .308 26" stainless heavy barrel.
These calibers will be around forever. and the stainless will last. and the heavy barrel can help accuracy.

my grandpa bout a rem 700 adl varmint for 450 at dicks today. has 26" in heavy barrell and decent trigger. Good shooter for the money, sale last till saturday. have .223, .308, and 22-250 in stock. Comes with a scope too but it is junk

It was inaccurate, had a heavy, creepy trigger, had sintered or pot metal trigger adjustment screws (one 'ear' came off the first time I tried to turn the screw), and the barrel channel and magazine well were not sealed against moisture.
