This is not what I would call "traditional".

Yes a CZ75B or D. It is a double stack but the grip is still pretty slim.

what could be more "traditional" than the classic Browning High Power?

Makarov PM. It just don't get any better than this in steel pistols. It is still going strong to this very day and being used in Afghanistan as we speak. The AK 47 of the auto loader pistol world.

Seconding the makarov, mine has adjustable sights and it extremely accurate and the only pistol i would trust my life to.

Well, that is the "traditional" way SA/DA auto's worked from the day they were invented.

Think:
Walther PP & PPK.
Walther P-38.
S&W 39.
Most later metal frame S&W 39/59 series.
The whole SIG line.
Beretta 92.
Makarov.
And so on and so forth.

A traditional SA/DA auto pistol must have a safety / decocker of some sort to get from cocked SA after firing or loading, to a DA first pull again.

Sounds like a third generation S&W. The safety is the decocker on these pistols. The 3904 should meet the specs as defined by the OP.

Metal frame, DA/SA, 9mm, single stack, and no rails? Without question, the P6/P225.

If you're willing to go double-stack, then the BHP and P226/P228/P229 family and S&W 3rd gen pistols all come into play as well.

Beretta 92 or any Sig.

P225/P6 fits what you have asked for perfectly. Look no further.

S&W Model 39 - One of my personal best and one of most accurate porduction 9's ever made. (They were aluminum frame however there was a steel frame version as well) I had all steel nickel plated,beautiful!
