What makes feedback productive or not?

Simply based on Century's nearly universal record of being sub-par, I'd say pass.

Considering the price of Galil's even back when they were easily available I can't believe that you're going to get much from CA for $500! I won't buy until I could hold it in my hot little hands personally and check it closely! I'd also STRONGLY make an effort to test fire it before buying. CA's stuff is usually rather poor quality/condition AND vastly overpriced so I'm very leary of any SA that they'd sell for $500!! They charge almost that much for mediocre condition bolt actions! I absolutely won't buy one of these without seeing it first!

If he buys it some place that will honor warranty issues even if Century doesn't, then for that price I'd say give it a go. But give it a go knowing it may be screwed up.

If you can inspect it yourself, go for it. I picked up my Golani rifle a couple of months ago and I've been happy with it. Nice, solid gun. Fully milled receiver. Only BAD thing is the included magazine, which was completely unusable. Fortunately, high-end Tapco polymer mags are only around $13 apiece.

There are some things you need a laboratory to check.

My vote is to pass on it.

I have read nothing good about Century arms EVER!! On the other hand I have read countless WHORE stories about them,on every gun site I am a member of.

My Golani has run very well other than an aversion to Remington UMC ammo. I have heard of others with the same aversion to UMC. I would strongly urge you go to the Uzitalk forum and read up on the Golani so that you can make the right choice if you decide to take the plunge. You will learn to avoid early rifles with the "ORF" serial prefix in favor of "GLN" serial prefix receivers. The GLN reciever is no guarantee of a functional rifle, but problems have been far, far fewer with the GLN and when problems do arise they are more often of a less serious nature. Again, the UziTalk forum will be a wealth of knowledge to make an informed decision whether to acquire a Golani and if so which one. Acquiring one is not without risk.

My Golani is a keeper.

I have a Century Yugo AK M70ab2 underfolder that is one of my favorite AKs. It all depends on who they farm out their builds to. I'm not saying CIA doesn't have some problem rifles, but a lot of what people pass on here is hear say not actual experience.
Not to be picky, but did you MEAN "WHORE" stories or HORROR stories??

I've considered a Golani rifle on more than one occasion, but I've always taken a pass. There are LOTS of reported problems with these, notwithstanding that there seem to be several owners out there who are quite happy with their Golanis. When nalioth says there are some things you need a laboratory to check, I think he's referring to issues with the hardness of Golani receivers, which is something you just cannot eyeball in a gun shop. Frankly, this possibility of a latent defect in the receiver has been a big factor in my opting not to purchase a Golani.

Quick correction on my earlier post. The ORF (ohio rapid Fire) receivers that were so problematical are prefixed "GAL".

I believe that the "soft reciever" issue was with the cast receivers. My GLN is milled (or maybe not, it's been awhile since I looked into the issue).

Again, you need to do your homework if you consider this rifle.

I second this. I got lucky with my century ak, the only thing wrong was the rear sight was not on straight. from everything I have read century is real hit or miss, which shouldn't be all that surprising considering the price point they go for.

another thing to keep in mind is that their "warranty" starts from the day the rifle leaves century's factory.
