So much has been posted on the LC9 but I just couldn't resist adding my own comments.
I've been thinking about a small 9mm for some time and was leaning towards the LC9 but the Solo caught my eye. It was just hard to justify the added cost over the Ruger. I happened to go past Gander today just to look around and found that they had some LC9's in stock. Fair, but not great price. One followed me home.
Got home and loaded up some snap caps to see what the trigger was like out of the box. It was horrible! I knew it would be long but I could feel and hear the crunching and it was drenched in some sort of lube! I'm thinking I made a big mistake.
I gave it a good scrubbing and lubed it up with my favorite stuff that has been almost like a trigger job in a tube/ bottle in the past. Put her back together and tried again. Still long, of course, but all the crunching noise and feel was gone. Actually a nice trigger and never live fired yet. Makes you wonder why Ruger puts sand in their lube.
On to the feel. Outstanding with the pinky extension. What amazed me was when I put the flat mag plate on it was still amazing. I've always hated wrapping my pinky under the grip on both my revolvers and semi's. I really like the feel of of this thing with my pinky wrapped. The grip still feels like it's got control. Outstanding design, at least for my hands.
As for the mag disconnect, loaded indicator and internal lock, obviously not deal breakers. LCI doesn't bother me. Mag disconnect will stay since once the gun proves itself, it will team up with my 442 for carry. No need to give the lawyers any ammo. The internal lock will never get used and I see it as worthless.
To sum it up, I think I'm going to love it. Great sights, great feel, nice size. Can't wait to see if it shoots!

I love mine as well. Just don't drop it. I dropped mine on asphalt and the thumb safety broke. haha. Congrats on the new toy.

This is why it is important to field strip and clean a new gun.

Can't wait to see if it shoots! (emphasis mine)
This is the most important of all.

That should happen next weekend LH. I've only got about 250 rounds loaded so I need to crank out some more. Let's see....break in the LC9, test out the SR9 with the Ghost connector now installed and a bunch through the 3913. I think I need to crank out a bunch more!

Sorry Mike, none taken yet. It's just a regular LC9 with......ummmmm.....standard grips.

LOL.....I'll toss in pictures of mine in if you'd like. Got it last weekend.

Congrats on the LC9 purchase!

Does Apex do a trigger kit for it yet? That would clean it up.

Nice looking semi. Took Ruger a while to get going but ever since the LCP and beyond they have done a good job of catch up.

I agree, internal lock is useless for me; I refuse to purchase a gun with one. Why in the heck did Ruger put a internal lock on the LC9 when the LCP doesn't have it?

My thoughts also. Didn't feel right in my hand and knowing the junk that isn't necessary inside it only means more to possibly go wrong. My carry 45, no problem. J frames are the old no lock. I have one "plastic" handgun, Glock g23 because it works for me and I could depend on it as with my others.

While buying another gun, l looked at one in my LGS the other week. I noticed the slide release was incredibly stiff and hard to operate. Is this the norm for this gun?

can I say Garbage!

I went to Cabelas to look one over. As soon as I picked it up, I knew it was GARBAGE. The slide was so loose and wobbly, the gap between the slide and frame was huge. It felt cheap, and looked cheap. And the goofy load chamber was what really was the final straw. Ruger is not what it use to be. I wouldn't buy a ruger made after 2000. I own 6 ruger handguns, are all awesome. But the LC9 IS CRAP!!!!:D

True...the LC9 isn't going to win any beauty contests. Mine also has a large gap between the frame and slide. But guess what - it has fired flawlessly and accurately every single time I have pulled the trigger (about 600 rounds now).

The last "pretty" gun I bought was a Kahr CW45. Granted, it is their budget line, but it was still more expensive than the LC9. On the first trip to the range, it fired beautifully...22 times. On the 23rd round, I squeezed the trigger and...nothing. No click, no boom, just nothing. Once I (finally) got the slide back to eject the live round, I chambered another. Nothing. I tried to disassemble it to see what was going on and I couldn't even get the slide off. I assume it was because the trigger must be pulled to release the slide. I took it back to the shop where I bought it and the smith there couldn't even get it apart. They were nice enough to let me swap out for something else (the LC9) and deal with Kahr themselves.

I guess the classification of "garbage" is subjective, but to me that certainly describes the Kahr. The Ruger that actually functions properly? Not so much.

I've got over 1,300 trouble free rounds of 7 different kinds of ammo through my LC9. The gun has been shot by 10 different people, all liked the gun. As I recall all were right accurate with the LC9

It's my pocket carry of choice when I'm wearing something with fairly deep pockets.

Yes, and it doesn't looses up, at least not in 1,300 rounds.
I've got other guns like that also. If I like the guns I just live with it.

Yes. When I first brought mine home the slide would not go in to battery just by bumping the slide release. Way too stiff, I had to "slingshot" it.

After 150 rounds it has loosened up some to where I can now put in a full mag and hit the slide release. It is still pretty stiff, though.

IIRC, the LC9 is a DAO firearm. From the picture is looks like there is a safety as mentioned. That seems odd. This is coming from a guy that has a M&Pc with a thumb safety that I bought on purpose.

For pocket carry how does this compare to a s&w 442 or 642? Does it fit in deeper or shorter pockets than the J frame snub?

Thanks,

Clutch

13.18 I have had issures with Kahrs before. That's one big reason for a Ruger now. At least they stand behind their products. Kahr CS is terrible.

I just checked out a LC9 at a local shop and was overwhelmed at how light it was. The ammo when fully loaded probably weighs almost as much or more than the weight of the pistol itself. Seemed like a great carry weapon though. Hope it fits your needs.

My brother got one a yesterday and I went to his house to check it out, I was very impressed. Impressed enough to be picking one up next week pending shooting his LC9.

I would have already bought one if the Ruger rep had brought an LC9 to the event they had at the gun club I shoot at.

I agree that it was stiff and that the slide release was inoperable. But I don't like slide releases anyway, I prefer slingshotting. I find it more reliable, easier and something that is operable under stress.

Just bought a Ruger LC9 today.$389 drive out from
Academy Sports.Gave it a good cleaning.Super gunk
greasy sandy looking stuff in there.Took it to the range.
Fired a quick 50 rounds through it.Flawless.
My new carry gun.I have to admit the trigger
pull is longer and harder to pull than my
Ruger .380 LCP.I also have to work on my
accuracy with it.That trigger pull makes you
stay on the target a long time.Just a matter
of practice, practice.I reload,so I'll be doing plenty of that.

JMOfartO:

My Ruger LC9 is the perfect companion (in an iwb) to my LCP which rides in a rear pocket holster..

My Ruger LC9 has been perfect right out of the box and at 7 yards (my personal self defense distance of choice) it is amazingly accurate....

Hey, the LC9 is small, light, RELIABLE, and more than self defense accurate.. What more could a person want in a 9MM cc choice?

I am so pleased with my new Ruger LC9 that my previously favorite 9MM cc choice (HK P2000sk) resides in the gun safe now..

I believe that speaks volumes about my happiness with my $365.00 LC9.

Your opinion is duly noted. However, this is a mass produced, low priced, defensive tool. I bought one about a month ago and have fired nothing but, flawless rounds through it. I have even achieved a perfect score on my departments off duty qual course. The trigger, although long. is very smooth with very very little stacking. Bayhawk 2 said it well "practice, practice". It has replaced my P3AT as my go to summer gun cuz it gives 1 more round of firepower and 9mm energy. I love it.
