What type of AR is this exactly?

looks to be a "bushmaster carbon 15 m4 flat top carbine", but thats kinda a low price

im not an ar guy myself, but i hae never heard anything bad about bushmaster

It appears to be a M4gery, flat top with a 16" barrel. The bushmaster carbon 15 upper and lower is made from a carbon fiber material. It is a light weight rifle. I've never shot one, I know one guy who bought one and he had problems with it, sent it back to BM and traded for a 7075 M4gery.

Looks like there are some BM "Carbon 15" carbines which have aluminum alloy receivers, not just carbon fiber, and the linked item seems to be one of those.

Bushmaster Carbon 15. They are pretty good. Very light weight. Good price on that one. I've owned 2 Bushmasters and have shot several others. I currently have their carbon/polymer 9mm version of the AR and am pretty happy with it.
As for the type - the M4 types, or M4geries as some refer them as... means they have the shorter length barrel (16"), collapsible stock, and maybe flat top receivers. Compare/contrast that with the Full size 20" barrel, fixed stock from the M16A1 or A2 type AR-15s. Another type is the varminter types that have a 20" or greater barrel, generally heavy or bull type and are suited for longer range optics.
On AR-15s the choice is yours as to what type or configuration you want for your very own. And the beauty is you can always easily change it by swapping out complete upper assemblies or barrels if you are so inclined.

BTW, in case you don't know the M4geries (M4 Forgeries) refers to M4-like rifles as only the REAL Mil or Govt Issued M4s are true M4s. Hope that makes sense.

I think you can get Smith and Wesson M&P15s for about the same price which would be a better weapon IMHO.

I have known two people with Carbon 15 rifles and both of them ended up trading them away after a short period of time.

Bushmaster makes a decent sporting rifle but I believe they are over priced for what you get.

I have a bushmaster AR-15 A1 style and it is a great little rifle. That being said I think the Spikes ARs are the best deal in my neck of the woods. But a Bushmaster 16" flattop for $699 seems like a great deal to me

They constantly have specials on S&Ws ... you can look at their downloadable catalog but it's likely there's a better weekly deal available. The most recent (2 days ago??) deal I saw was for a couple of S&W ARs more in the 950 - 1100 range but they freq have some at lower price points (minus a few refinements/toys/glam/useless junk obviously).

I don't know if maybe im overlooking it but I went to that site and was unable to find this deal

CDNN has the standard M&P for $799 right now, a little more than you were looking at. Occasionally they will put the "Optics Ready" models on sale for under 700 bucks.

The S&W M&P 15 Sport is $599.99 at Academy Sports and other big box gundealers. They are IMO a much better rifle than any Bushmaster.

Potcha, check with any ffl local to you. MSRP on the M&P-15 Sport is $709, so street prices should be close to $600 anywhere you can find one.

I bought that exact same rifle from Academy last weekend. It's extremely lightweight. I had no issues with the cheapest brass and steel ammo I could find. I don't care much for the red dot it came with, but it lists for $90 around the interweb, and I figure I can get $50 pretty easily out of it as soon as I decide on a suitable replacement, or I may just stick it on my turkey gun. The rings it comes with are very cheap, so pick up another set of 30mm rings if you intend to use that sight.

If I am not mistaken the S&W M&P15's are the sport models which lack the dust cover and the forward assist so they may or may not be of importance to you. Another option you could look at is possibly DPMS rifles, I know Bud's has a couple under 600, they don't have any sights so you would need your own optics.

Have a S&W M&P15 OR (optics ready, no sights)
It does have a forward assist and dust cover. Paid right at 600 for it new.

in my area they're about $650.


i'm not a fan of a steel bolt riding inside a polymer upper with no metal between the two. plus, could they have stuck a cheaper red dot sight on it?

looked at one of these today actually. i would take this over the carbon15 for sure. decent rifle, as long as you don't mind the lack of forward assist/dust cover

Not every FFL keeps a webpage up to mail order firearms. Try calling on the phone. There are still businesses who do that, and you get someone on site speaking English as their primary language.

Having seen them at gun shows with literal stacks of guns around the table, I expect they still have a few.
