Does anyone have any information/updates regarding Indiana permits being recognized in any of the states that currently do not have a reciprocity agreement with us? I'll be traveling to WV soon to visit family and although we recognize their permits they still refuse to recognize ours. I find this very frustrating. Is there anything we, as citizens can do to help advance these issues toward resolution?

I had a thought earlier today (happens occasionally..ha!) and wanted to expand this thread just a bit.

Second question for discussion: Would you support a change in the way Indiana issues handgun permits (i.e. adding a firearms certification class prerequisite such as in KY) if it meant more states signing reciprocity agreements with Indiana?

I'll refrain from answering my own question for now but I'm curious as to how some of my Hoosier State brethren would feel about it; anyone is welcome to chime in though.

Hey I might see you on the road:) I too have checked out the laws for carry on a trip I'll be taking to Virginia. Looks like I'll be carrying through the Commonwealth and that's it:(

I'm not opposed to taking classes for a carry license if it meant I could carry more places. That said, with my work schedule, finding the time would have been a real pain for getting my license.

I keep telling my wife we should just down to Florida instead:D

Yeah, it's a bummer. I'm going to call the WV state police and get their advice/suggestions on how to proceed while in their state but I would assume that, as far as carrying on my person or within reach, the law's the law and I'm out of luck while visiting WV.

It's a bit frustrating that there are so many states that do not recognize our licenses but looking at the map on usacarry.com and comparing IN vs. KY reciprocity with other states, there appears to be only about a 7 or 8 state difference so I wonder how much of the lack of reciprocity is actually due to Indiana being a shall issue state?

if your in WV with out say a Utah permit keep it locked up in your trunk....
Yeah, I guess that's pretty much the plan although I'm not happy about it to say the least. The thing that aggravates me the most is the fact that WV is a shall issue state! There's no good reason for them not recognizing Indiana permits.
