How far have you driven with your CCW?

H'lo, y'all (phony accent)...

I'm thinking of driving from southern Texas to northern Indiana to visit my roots: a distance of 1500 miles. As a Texas CCW permit holder, I can do this legally, comfortably, and without any interruptions via Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky -- all of which have reciprocity agreements with the Lone Star. Indiana has no such pact with Texas, but honors the Texas permit all the same. Texas, however, doesn't recognize the Indiana permit, and requires Hoosiers to get a non-resident license to carry on their visit. In other words, a Hoosier will have a bit more of an inconvenience traveling in the opposite direction.

How far have you carried in the U.S. without hassles or interruptions?

I just drove from MN to OK. There was one State in there somewhere that didn't honor my MN permit, but it didn't matter to me I just drove the speed limit and didn't act suspicious.

I drove across the country, from Seattle to Portland, Maine. Planned my route through states that I had reciprocity with. There were a few that weren't on the list. So I dutifully disarmed, locked the gun up, encased it in concrete and then locked that in magnetically sealed airtight vault I kept in the back of the truck, which was then locked and then plastered with stickers "WARNING- GUN!! - RUN AWAY!!"

From Colorado to Ohio to Florida and back to Colorado again. Disguised as a soccer mom family in a mini van. No ccw permit, armed to the teeth with (iirc) 13 weapons that trip.

No agressive driving, seen lots of cops, no problems. YMMV!

Texas to Michigan here. I went out of my way to avoid Illinois, which was alright as have relatives in Fort Wayne that I stopped and visited anyway.

I have a permit from AR and Florida. Travelled to see my daughter and her family: Arkansas, Louisana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia several trips. Carrying sure makes one feel more secure as we go through ALL kinds of country, civilization and some not so civilized looking. No problem so far.

How about vertical feet?

I have driven from Texas through Arkansas to Tennessee. On the trip, we made a little stop in Tunica Mississippi to visit the casinos...I of course had to disarm prior to entering Miss. as my Texas CHL is not valid.

Before I knew anything about carry laws,I took my S&W 629 4' .44 for a ride from LA,Ca. to Marshfield,WI.
That was quite a trip....

Theoretically I could start in Florida, and go through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Washington, and take the ferry to Alaska.

Indiana has no such pact with Texas, but honors the Texas permit all the same.

Indiana honors everyone's permit.

We went from Indiana to South Dakota and just planned on not getting pulled over in the states that don't honor Indiana's permit.

I think carry permits should be treated like drivers licenses.

On my last vacation in 2001 I was on motorcycle through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Utah, carrying every day for about two weeks. Probably put on around 3,000 to 4,000 miles while carrying.

Oh, and Atc1man, I was carrying at the top of Beartooth Pass in Montana, too. :neener:

A bunch of miles

I know y'all might not believe me, but from Los Angeles to Squamish, Canada, and back...with all the stops along the way. (i.e. Monterey, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver,Victoria, etc..:what:

Wow, Simon, I have a 5-inch 629 classic, but a 4-foot 629...kind of defeats the purpose of concealed carry, doesn't it?:p

I have driven Central Ohio to Southern Florida many times on my FLA non-res CCW and also Ohio the Dallas to visit my brother.

Of course, until last month when I got my Ohio CCW, I kept the pistol locked in the trunk until I reached the Kentucky line

From Tucson to Ohio, down from Ohio to Georgia and then back to Tucson Arizona. Went thru Yellowstone on the way to Ohio.

The Arizona and Florida CCW license covered me almost everywhere.

Your permit may not have been reciprocal with MS, but loaded weapons are permitted in your vehicle. I love Mississippi. :D The exception is during deer season, no loaded rifles allowed.
