CCW Storage AT Airport Long-Term Parking

Feedback Please...

VERY EARLY one morning this week I will be traveling from MO across the stateline to KS and flying out of Kansas City Airport for a 5 day visit with family in both the Tucson and Phoenix areas. While there, there is a personal handgun waiting for me - all legal, no prob.

CCW reciprocity applies in all three states.

My Question and concern...
Should I "bury" a LEGAL small CCW in the trunk of my car before entering the airport "long-term" (off-premise) parking at the KC Airport and leave it "buried" until my return?

I'm NOT concerned about car break-in/smash'N'grab while gone, but MORE CONCERNED with traveling the 2 hours (0200-0400) from my home to the Airport, stopping for gas, food, coffee/etc en route to the airport and 5 days later, en route back to my home without a CCW.

Not getting the point of your question. If reciprocity applies, what is the concern about not having a CCW? I'm confused.

If you are checking a bag on the flight, take your firearm with you. No extra charge and no hassles to do so.
 
When you say "without a CCW" are you referring to the gun or the permit? If you can legally carry in all the states you'll visit or pass through on your trip why not just bring the gun with you all the way? No use leaving it in the car. Get a hard sided case and a lock and check it when you fly. Very easy and rarely any problems, especially in places like Missouri, Kansas, and Arizona. An added benefit is that everything else in your check bag is more secure because it's illegal for TSA to open your bag without you present if you have a firearm in it.

Not carrying luggage on this trip; not even a carry-on.
 
I leave one in the car sometimes at the airport. I don't even "bury" it unless you call being under the seat buried. What are you gonna do, sometimes stuff gets stolen but it's not likely.

Hide it so you have something when you get back to the car.

Aye - never said it was.....

but I'll still be dropping someone off in Kansas City, KS area both en route TO the airport and en route BACK from the airport when I come back (that's the "crossing state line" part - not that it matters to the situation)

and again, I'm not carrying luggage on this trip; not even a carry-on.

If I was that concerned about having a gun available I'd go through the slight hassle and maybe expense of checking the gun when I fly.

Growing up a city boy has taught me never leave something in your car you don't have to as it will get stolen eventually.

I am not sure what your qustion is. As said before KCI is in MO, you are ok to carry in KS crossing the state line is no prob.

The dissision to leave your handgun in the car is total up to you. How sure are you it will not be stole or borke into? Other then that the only legal issue might be if you are possesing a handgun in a restricted area and agian that upto you.

Lock it to the frame under the seat. It can still be stolen but it'll take work and time - two things thieves don't generally want to do.

A poor-man's alternative is just a padlock - slip it through the trigger guard - or a length of steel cable with eyelets through the mag well and locked to the frame of the car under the seat.

Since it is legal for you to carry here with (and without a permit here), and with CCW permit everywhere else on the trip-why don't you want to bring your pistol?

Weather is cooling off so you can carry however you want, either open or concealed.
Of course having your permit does allow you carry in restaurants here that serve alcohol.
I've flown out of Tucson several times and had no issues. Only annoyance was the Marta trip to the Atlanta airport-and that airports stupid no firearms sign...
The luggage fee of ~$25 wasn't enough to stop me from taking a suitcase.

Since this is the legal forum, there is no legal issues with you leaving the gun in the car.

So, we can assume this is your gun that you left in Arizona and now you are returning to retrieve it or it was left to you as an inheritence? Otherwise there certainly is a legal problem with you bringing the handgun back from Arizona (anything else would violate 18 USC (a)(3)).

That's one heck of an assumption; returning to retrieve? left to me as an inheritence? bringing a handgun back?

My only question was for feedback regarding leaving a carry-weapon in my vehicle while at the airport.

There's nothing more to it than that - but thanks for your concern and your input.
 
Navy-I got that re luggage, but it has been so easy for me to transport my pistol I was curious- why not bring one here. :)

Toforo- Go ahead and bring a gun for the the car trip, better the have it and not need it....I have had a car broken in at the Phoenix Airport :fire: so I am a little wary about leaving one in the car.
That being said-My favorite gun to leave "buried" is my Glock, I strip it and hide the barrel seperate from the frame and slide-I am concerned about theft and would prefer not to have a fully functional firearm accessible if found.
 
If you're really set on leaving your gun in the car you could get a pelican case and zip tie it to the frame underneath. At least that way if the car is broken into or stolen they're unlikely to find the gun, at least for a while.
