looking to puchase a .9mm. new or used it really doesnt matter to me. ive decided on either ruger or taurus. im trying to stay as close to $300 as possible, $400 is my max though. any suggestions?

Between those two... I'd probably spend slight more and get a CZ 75B, glock 17, M&P, etc. Taurus is very hit or miss - some work well but a lot don't. I haven't been impressed with the Ruger 9mm's but I would probably pick them over a Taurus if it had to be between the two.

The Taurus Pt92 is a good pistol don't have any experience with any of the others. I own a Ruger P90 in .45 ACP and its a good pistol so I'd assume one of the metal frame 9mm models would be good too. Either one is a good choice so get the one that fits your hand the best and cost the least.

How is this even a question??????

RUGER!!!!!!!

To be more specific, get the Ruger SR9 or SR9c.... Great guns and very affordable.

It's a good question.

I own two Ruger P95DCs (9x19), 1 Ruger P97DC (.45 ACP), a Ruger SR9 (9x19), a Ruger SR-9c, a Taurus PT111 Mil Pro (9x19), a Taurus PT709 (9x19), a Taurus 732 (.32 ACP), and two Taurus PT-22s. I've got ACTUAL experience with both brands,makes, and models.

Oh,yes. Only the people who've had real verifiable experience and evidence with good details are valid.

Which would I go with? Which ever fits the user's needs and him the best.

Taurus makes the 24/7 pistol series in several sizes as the new G2 series has been released. It's a better system than the original 24/7s, but the earlier models are just fine, dependable, reliable, and accurate.

I can go get 20 pages of links from the actual owners if need be.

Here's the story on the 24/7 series from here.

That's just the type of the iceberg!

I've got small hands with short fingers. That's why I have both Taurus and Ruger pistols. These fit me when other models do not and all give sterling service.

For your own research there is this.

Ask the actual owners, do research, or do searches. The people will tell you the actual truth.

There are two Ruger Forums at the bottom of my avatar. Click on them for research for the Rugers. Those are the actual owners as well. Ask questions, do searches, and look for yourself.

Then go try as many of these as possible at the local gun stores and ranges. Then you can make an inofrmed decision.

If you get the Ruger, fine. If you get the Taurus, fine.

Most Taurus owners have other brands of firearms.

For example, I own Beretta, SIG, Ruger, and Springfield products as well.

Others find that Taurus meets their needs and that's all they get. If it meets their needs, works well for them, then that's all that matters. They never look back.

Oh, yes. Add a Glock 19 Gen 4 to my arsenal.

Ruger P series, or the Ruger SR series if you shop around because you can find those for right at $400.

I've sold Taurus at a high volume dealer, and I saw how many of their polymer frame pistols came back with problems. I saw too many problems to ever buy one.

Don't own a Taurus, do own a P85 and have owned a P95. You don't call a Taurus model. Taurus has a wide variety of 9s. I like the Mill Pro, have considered a PT145 (not 9mm) for a purchase down the road, love the compactness and light weight for a 11 shot .45.

Up to you, really. I picked up the P85 for $225 from a guy at work. It's the pre Mk2/P89 version so I decock it with a thumb on the hammer as I do with my other DAs, actually. It's a reliable gun and tough as nails. No problems shooting ANY legit 9x19 +P+, whatever. It's okay accurate, the trigger is kinda stiff and not a real good transition. IOW, it ain't perfect. But, it's a solid, reliable autoloader.

My P90 is a far more accurate and refined gun, best of the P series IMHO. But, it's no longer made. Sad. It's a .45, anyway, not a 9.

i would opt for ruger over taurus as well, i own 3 taurus and thats enough for me unless someone wants to sell one at an 80% discount.

ruger has never let me down in terms of reliability, service and quality. i own 8 ruger's and would not hesitate to buy more.

Ruger - Hands down.

Personally, I think the SR9c is one of the best pistols you can buy today. Same goes for the SR40c.

Taurus quality is hit or miss. I don't say this out of "this is what I hear...". I say this out of personal experience. Go with a Ruger P-Series or SR Series to remain within budget.

Ruger. I own several makes of handguns (Ruger, S&W, CZ, SIG, Walther, Baikal - I have have a Hi-Point :)) - Ruger is my absolute favorite and is the first place I look when looking to buy a new gun. They're durable, reliable, and typically the best bang for your buck out there.

They're basically the perfect balance of price and performance. They are typically low-cost, but they only go as low as they can without cutting any corners.

If you are fine with DA/SA, look at the P-series. If you want striker-fired, look at the SR9. The P95 is close to the $300 mark whereas the SR9 can be found for just under $400 online.

As to Taurus - I don't own one now nor have I have. My sister has a 24/7 in .40S&W (her boyfriend is out of town working a lot and got it for her to keep in the nightstand). I've shot it - no major problems - I probably wouldn't feel hobbled if I had to use one, but nothing particularly great stood out either.
