ok im looking for a good semi cheap pistol preferably 9mm price range 200-450/475 the only thing ive decided on is no glocks
poly/metal doesnt matter
fun plinker/ range gun
reliable
 
Do you have a trigger preference? Since it is only for a range gun/plinker are you set on 9mm?

If you just want "cheap" and reliable and don't care about looks, get a Hi-Point

If your willing to go with a .22 (cheaper ammo) there are a number of fun plinkers on the market in your price range.
 
There are a lot of guns (new and used) that could fall into that price range, I'd narrow down what it is you want (feature/caliber wise) and go from there.

Actually the Hi-Point is a good option for a range/plinker, they work, are reasonably accurate and cheap (almost as Ugly as a Glock though) and if you do have a problem with them (and the newer ones seem to be realitively trouble free) the company apparently stands behind the product. Besides, that would give you another $75 or so for ammo!
 
How about the CZ P-01 - 9mm, 14+1, alloy frame, DA/SA with decocker, cost is around $425-450 new. I use it for concealed carry & home defense, but it's a great plinker too. You can also buy a .22LR slide, barrel & magazine for around $225-250.

I've been really happy with my latest purchase, a stainless 9mm Taurus Millenium Pro. $299.99+ tax NIB. It's functioning has been flawless so far w/ pretty good accuracy and it makes a great CCW. I like it so much I'm about to get the .45 acp version.

the cz is a good gun but doesnt fit me right
taurus... not bad not my favorite but something to check out in a hour or so
 
Try dry firing that Taurus, I shot one and was amazed at how crappy the trigger was, had to take my finger completely off to reset the trigger... My buddy just loves the thing so to each his own, but like I said check out the trigger 'cause I just couldn't get around that... Other than that I liked the way the gun handled just fine.
What 9mm do you like? Try buying one used.
 
If you want a rail the only Millenium Pro version w/ one is the .45 acp.

How about a Smith and Wesson 5906? They can be had for around $300, in very good condition.

Otherwise Ruger semi-autos are reasonably priced, reliable and fairly accurate.

But truth be told i'd pick up a used Glock..:evil:
 
Your criteria sounds like you are describing a Glock. Why wouldn't you want one?
 
Ruger P95, new Steyr MA1, Taurus PT92 are all available with rails now. Right on the top edge of your price range would be a Springfield XD, Beretta PX4, or Walther P99. If you go to www.cdnninvestments.com and download their catalog you should be able to get some ideas.

Because it's more fun to make a caveat of "no glock" (with no reason given that we could keep said criteria in mind while making alternative suggestions), then post puke icons and making funny spins on names like "hi poop", in response as we go along.

So taurus is out, cz is out, hi poop is out, GLOCK is out, uber small polymer .45's are out... but if you can go up to 475 or so, still plenty of options.

But before I go on to make ruger, xd, and used higher end suggestions, I just want to see if you can describe your ideal pistol. Try telling us what you WANT instead of what you dont want. So what would it be? Al I know so far is rail and short reset. Trigger configuration? short reset. SA would solve that- or are you cool w/external manual safeties? Need consistent pull from first to last shot, or will DA work for you? Not that anyones trying to push GLOCK on you, but as cokeman asked, it will give us insight on whether to recommend similar point and click platforms like xd.
 
In that price range, and in 9mm, I would suggest at taurus pt92/99 or the ruger p95. Both are very good firearms for the money. I have more experience with the taurus, and I'm quite fond of the Pt99 I've got. I got it used, but barely, for $325. If it were between those two, I'd say the ruger for concealing and the taurus ( pt99 with adjustable sights ) for a range gun.
 
Taurus makes some nice pistols in 9mm. If you want a full size pistol their PT 24/7 Pro will probably fit the bill. If you want something smaller it's little brother, the PT-111 Mill Pro is a great little pistol. My son has put over 2,000 rounds through his PT-111 Pro this year without a hitch. We bought it used so I have no idea how many rounds have already been put through it.

Actually, those two pistols would make a perfect Carry/BUG team IMO. :uhoh:

Check out the Ruger P- series. They've got 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45. Poly or aircraft grade aluminum frames.

Prices run to the high end of what you said you want to spend, but you can find some good prices through the gun auction sites or your local gun shop.

I was able to get a new P89DC for less than most of the auctions on gunbroker from my gun store.
 
If a Ruger P95 would fit your criteria, Gander Mountain has the blued version for $299 until 3/8. I bought one and am impressed with the value for the money.
 
I'll go ahead and say it for the millionth time.
Taurus PT92 9mm 17+1 in stainless. It fits all of your requiremnets. It's not good it's great.

For other options i suggest A Ruger P89(when it comes to Ruger buy the older alloy frames, seriously) its ugly and heavy but another, great not good gun.

Also that gets alot of mention is
CZ-75 or variants of said gun, even though locally there leaing more towards the 500 dollor range
or Browning High Power, just buy one from a reptiable company.
