I believe that is a first generation Glock (Gen 1) but I'm no expert.

Actually, there are no Gen 1 G26s or 27s, as they were introduced in 1995. I have an early G26...but not where I can get at it tonight. I believe it has the frontstrap checkering. I can tell you for sure in a few days, if you still need the info.

I'm pretty sure that it has to be customized. As far as I know, the finger grooves started in generation 3 and they all have the checkering.

It's an early second gen glock. They added the checkering in between the fingers when the model 33 came along.

It's a Gen 2.5

The early Glock 26, 27, 28, 29 & 30 were Gen 2.5.

If it's got finger grooves, it's a Gen 3 or 4.

The first run of the sub-compacts didn't have checkering for whatever reason.

Around Oct 1996....a gen 2.5 finger grooves without checkering.

It's called a Gen 2.5 by the Glock community. The very first G26's and G27's didn't have checkering between the finger grooves, they had an adjustable plastic rear sight, and a guide rod with a black plastic base. The newest guide rods for the sub-compacts have a silver metal base.

I see you've already got your answer, but I did say I'd check. Yes, my early G26 has finger grooves, no checkering on the front strap.

The first G26s and G27s had BMX and BMY for prefixes. I have a later B--.
