Trigger choice for AK47

i've heard tapco g2s are some of the best out there...

I have an RSA (Red Star Arms) adjustable trigger in my Saiga that is a great trigger. It took a little while and some tinkering around to figure out the adjustments, but it was worth it.

Single or double hook depends on what receiver you have.

As far as adjustable or not, every adjust adds another point of failure. I'd polish the engaging surfaces of what you have now. I suspect that you'll be surprised at how good the AK trigger can feel after the sear has a mirror polish on it.

And you don't have to buy new parts.

Tapco G2s are fine. Double-hook or single-hook is like a ford/chevy debate. I don't see an advantage or benefit to a double-hook vs a single. I only buy singles...


If your receiver isn't cut to accept a double, you'll have to address that before you can install a double.


Arsenal makes some nice triggers as well. They are more ergonomically contoured for the shooter, and the pull is a bit smoother than most unpolished G2s.

If it ain't broke.. don't fix it.

I went with a converted Arsenal 2 stage trigger from Dinzag. Works well.

+1 for Red Star Arms. Totally changed the way my AK shot and it had a Tapco trigger already.

Ive had both RSA and Tapco, and the RSA is by far, the better trigger.

Tapcos are way too light for an AK platform. I like the Arsenal triggers. Midway has them for $32.

Why change it if it has no issues? Tapco G2 trigger groups are the "standard", and they're good triggers with a little polishing here and there. Double or single hook doesn't make much difference (if you have a single hook receiver, you'd have to cut it to install a double hook trigger).

You'll have to explain that one. Probably 95 percent or better of US compliant AK's use the Tapco FCG.

TAPCO! Super cheap! Great trigger. I read all the time about guys who have bought Saiga's and the first thing they do is swap out the trigger for a Tapco G2.

Personally, I have one on my TGI AMG-65 and it's a single hook G2. Probably the nicest trigger I have on any of my rifles.

Why is it bad too have a super light trigger on a military style semi auto rifle? Its not obvious? There is a good reason general issue military rifles always have relatively long and/or heavy triggers. Avoiding unintentional fire. Luckily most people just use them at the range but even there i think they are dangerous as they make it way too easy to shoot over berms. For home defense tapco triggers are a horrible idea.

While i seriously doubt anywhere near 95% of compliant AKs have tapco triggers they are the norm because they are the cheapest.

My Tapco G2 was terrible. After hearing all the reports praising them, I put one in my WASR and regretted it from day one. It was gritty and crunchy, and if taken up and not let off, it would let off at the next slightest touch. I took it back out and replaced it with the original, which is actually a decent trigger.

Its been my experience, the original "pre ban" or "import" AK triggers are actually very good. Even the crappy compliance parts with slap arent all that bad as triggers go, other than being painful. Slap was the main reason I put the RSA in my one SAR, as it was painful to shoot, and none of the "fixes" worked.

The RSA's are pricey, and the early models werent all that "drop in" as they claimed. Mine was a PITA to fit, but once I got it in, its been good. I understand the newer versions are much better as far as installation goes.

The tapco trigger that came with my AK is fantastic. It's so smooth and not too heavy.
