What is a 'single hook' versus a 'double hook' trigger and which one does my Saiga 308 want?

I'm looking at a Tapco G2 as it seems to have good rec's and a good price, just don't know if it fits the Saiga308 and if one is better what do I need to do to install it in the way of alterations?

Take a look at the hole in the receiver the trigger comes out. It is square, with a little notch out of one or two corners - if one, like my Saiga, then get a single hook, if two, you've got the option open.

The double hook grabs the hammer on both sides, the single only on one. There are many opinions on merits one way or the other, i personally can't tell a difference in use.

Saigas use single hook triggers, so that is what you need.

I forgot to add that the 308 trigger takes some special grinding to fit right; you can order one from Dinzag that has been specifically ground down for the S308 - it might be a few more bucks, but it could save you some consternation.

The safety to or the fire control group also require modification (welding to do it right) if you want the safety to work properly. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=11427 The Dinzag FCG also solves that rather significant problem.

One can resolve the various issues associated with the using a regular FCG in a .308, if they know what they are and how to address them, but the Dinzag trigger will be easier for most people.

The Tapco G2 requires some grinding? I am fairly handy with a Dremel; tell me how it's supposed to go and I'll give it a whirl!

All saigas (to my knowledge) have only one notch and are set up for use with a single-hook trigger. I used the double-hook (in a S-12) by cutting a second notch in the receiver. The part was the same price and the modification simple, so I went for it. After some modification and fitting (grinding, and filing) my trigger is the best that I have pulled on an AK (very crisp, and light, with no creep). Whether that is due to the double-hook or my precise fitting, I do not know...but if I were to do it over again, I would definitely choose the double-hook style.
