cool, i can put it right next to my moon rock collection...it isnt verified either but i know the guy who said he talked to the lady who got it from a friend of an astronaut
 
I'm sure the Thompson will go for at least a million. The question is how much more? $10 million? $20?

The proof of ownership would be next to impossible to determine. It like a Cresent Wrench I have recently gave to my son. It was left to me by my father-in-law who I trusted completely without question that the wrench had belonged to "Lee Harvey Oswall". My father-in-law passed on in 79 but he had stories that put him in same area of Oswald but even with the name engraved on tool there is no way of proving it, so to me its a great tool that came from a great man.

I've got Eva Braun's Mosin Nagant with a certificate of authenticity from the descendants of a guy named Horst, a wholesale sausage dealer who once had his picture taken with Magda Goebbels sister. It's in perfect condition other than the stock is broken and the bolt is rusted shut. That's just part of the provenance because Eva kept her guns out in the wood shed at the Eagles Lair, which used to just drive Adolph crazy. But, you know, he loved her despite her poor gun care. It's rumored that he wanted to shoot her with her beloved Nagant but since the bolt was rusted shut, he had to borrow a Walther from Martin Bormann for the suicide pact. I used to have that Walther, but I traded it for the Sig 220 that Princip used to assassinate Archdule Franz Ferdinand.

Anyway, if somebody wants to buy Eva's Mosin Nagant, I'd let it go for 250K, or swap for a Hi Point carbine.

Maybe, if it was properly registered prior to the 1986 cut-off date.

Since it has apparently been in police custody for the last 80 years, it might not have been.

If it wasn't?

The ATF has already confiscated it and cut it up with a cutting torch.

This reminds me of 2 stories I heard. After Bat Masterson retired he got another job and kept a revolver in his desk. Whenever someone came by to reminisce he would pull out the revolver and talk about what a great duty gun it was and such and, oh no he would never part with it, well, all right for the right amount of money. After selling it, he would go to the store and buy a new one, put it in his desk, and when the next person came along he would pull it out talk it up, oh no, he would never part with it...

Jesse James' mom would do the same thing. After he died someone would show up at her house to offer their condolences, and oh by the way would you happen to be selling any of his old guns? Well Jesse must have had a huge armory, because she never ran out of guns to sell to people...
 
It would still be cool to have a gun that was sold from Jesse's Mom even if it wasnt the real deal.. Or to buy a gun that Bat Masterson sold for this little scheme.

Those stories would make those guns worth more to me.

But proving even those stories would be a chore....

Could I trade you Simo Häyhä's left glove for any of your treasures? Or maybe his boots for the lot of em?
 
I'm finding myself strangely attracted to these guns and I can't explain why. I feel like a sicko now. Weird... very, very weird. I can only guess that my attraction has something to do with hating big banks and governmental control.
 
Actually, if you read the story you'll see that these guns do have some provenance -- nothing like the stories people are offering up. The fact that a serial number matches shows that someone didn't just buy an old shotgun and say 'this was the one I picked up on the raid.' Unfortunately, they don't have a complete chain. They might want to look around for fingerprints, you never know -- sounds like the guns haven't been handled much since they were captured.

Ya' see I have a problem...

Few know it, but I have Wyatt Earps' Thompson, that he got before he passed away in 1929. But it was never registered so I can't sell it.
