Really Cabelas...$14.99

I think you can request the store to match the web price. I did it once on some 556. In fact the person who orders the ammo told me to request the web price. I did, a manager came over and did the magic stuff to the register and bingo.

14.99 and up huh.....The most expensive 9mm box of 50 I ever bought was 17 bucks. Bought a new to me gun and wanted some ammo. Was at the LGS and decided I rather support his business than China-Mart. I could have saved 5 bucks but I thought one time was no big deal. Of course, I just reload them now. Didn't have any 9mm at the time with me. It was PMC Bronze if that makes any difference.

But yeah, 14.99 and up? I know you have to make a buck or two but if you can't be competitive your gonna lose out fast.

Competitive with an on-line source? Get real. If you want/need ammo now, the brick and mortars have "it" there and then for you to buy now.. or not.

Just look around at the store, and number of employees they have. Cabelas charges more for everything because the have HUGE overhead.

The first time I walked through the doors of Cabelas I knew I'd not buy anything. It's expensive to run that swanky brick-n-morter and the prices reflected that. Nice place to window shop though.

Thing is - its a rare event that someone is so in need of a box of ammo that they need it RIGHT NOW. So long as they up their prices to take advantage of that situation, then that will be the extent of the business they do . . . which is definitely a niche market.

When was the last time you bought any ammo? WalMart sells cheap brass case 9mm at $12 and up. Welcome to the future.

Yep, when it comes to firearms,I thought Cabelas would be cheaper for in-store sales due to buying power, but my LGS has better prices.

"Place" affects price this is for certain. Granted they're not selling water in the desert to a dying man but..
It must be a rare event to also need to buy a handbag etc "right now" else there'd be another whole Nordtsrom in each region etc. lol

I like Cabelas and they have good stuff and will make things right if you have an issue with an item that you bought from them. However, they are typically more expensive than other places. I offset this with the number of coupons and promotions that they have such as "Free Shipping on orders over ____" or "$20 off your next purchase of ___ or more," etc. I think where Cabelas makes their money and sucks people in is the fact that they have just about everything so it's one-stop-shopping. Instead of people trying to deal hunt, they are more inclined just to go with Cabelas and buy everything in one place and only pay one shipping charge or only go to one store. I understand your frustrations as they're prices are generally higher than other places.

I used to buy the $9.99 ammo at Cabela's all the time - around here it was the Sellier and Bellot or MFS brands. It was only on sale at that price though, never normal price.

I found, however, that Federal, Winchester and Remington has a slight edge in the reliability department...I've never had any light strikes with the American made brands, but a few with Eastern European stuff. Nothing too bad, but I think I'll spend a couple bucks more a box for the stuff I carry and use S&B for target.

I am worried about 9mm prices going up eventually like it has with all other calibers of handgun ammo. If that becomes imminent, I'll start buying more S&B before big price increases.

At my LGS & range its $20 for low end 9mm.

I use the Cabela's Visa card, for purchases other than at Cabela's,after awhile, I've got close to a $100.00 off on the purchase of any item I might be in need of from Cabela's. So it does pay to shop at Cabela's after you've used there credit card. Note: I pay the card off every month so it doesn't cost any more as far as interest goes.

Cabela's is a fancy store what with all the stuffed trophies and ambiance and clerks.

I go into a fancy restaurant with like setting I also expect to spend extra dollars and do. Just the way it is.

I wish Midway USA offered a credit card that accumulated reward points which were as good as cash on their website.

I wish Natchez, or Brownell's, or BudsGunShop.com, or Impact Guns, or GunBroker.com did something like that.

But they don't.

So I have a Cabela's card and I get $400-$600 worth of free stuff from them -every year- through this card's rewards points. It amounts to a ton of reloading components and a few pieces of gear, for no money out of pocket. I can barely remember the last time that I actually spent my own money on primers, powder, or bullets. This year, in addition to powder and primers, I had them ship me some fresh carry ammo too! The wife used her half of the rewards points for hiking shoes and other clothes.

So yeah, Cabela's sucks!

One of the most profitable and non-fancy gambling joints in all the lands (Reno) uses coupon "cards" or so I have heard. It seems people like that stuff.

They could charge $1000 a box for ammo if they wanted to, and you have absolutely no right to complain about it. Expecting them to match prices, online or otherwise, is absurd.

Yeah I have gotten S&B 9mm at Cabela's for as low as $9.59, I definitely stocked up then!

The Herter's brass case stuff I just saw the weekly ad had for $10.99 if you use the $2 off coupon.

As far as the big box stores go, Cabela's is usually the best mix of selection and cost. Fleet Farm sometimes has good deals too. Gander Mountain and Dick's sporting goods, forget about it! Online is the way to go but if you need to pick up some ammo that day then there are worse places than Cabela's.

He was talking about the CABELA'S web price, not the online price of a competitor.

Many times I have had to ask Cabela's to give me the web price on reloading components because the store price was slightly higher. There is never a problem with that as I was told that they intend for their web and in-store prices to be the same.

My local walmart has 9mm for just under $10 a box. iirc I paid $40 and change for 200 rounds. The range has PMC for around $13.xx a box.
