Pawn Stars show.

Did anyone also notice that it looked like all the Winchester rounds keyholed in the target..
Saw that and paused it to show my my wife there probably wasn't any rifling left in that old Winchester's barrel. Or they were using the wrong cartridge.

And it makes the the negotiation more dramatic for the viewers.
I have often wondered if so many experts were getting called in before the show was televised.

If it wasn't for the experts being called in, not much History would be shown. It's on the History channel for a reason you know. ;)

Given the amount of time between the first presentation of an item and the expert showing up, it has to be very produced. I won't say staged, but definitely produced. For example, the web site for Tortuga Trading (the gun expert Sean Rich) shows his office is in Encinitas, CA. Not exactly around the corner, even if he keeps a spare office in Vegas.

But still, educational and entertaining. The Gatling gun episode was a lot of fun.

Every episode of all these shows are staged, from the conversations, the facts revealed, to the items brought in and the dollars being offered.

Nothing is real on tv people.

.

It's all staged.

Do you think the owner of a larger pawn shop would be hanging around. Plus, do you really think Rick is really that knowledgable? He's fed all of that information so he can look smart.

And they obviously screen people and things to get them into the store. Most pawnshops never see anything of that quality and the people working there wouldn't know what to do with it.
.

Its staged to an extent. From what I've read/gathered they screen people with interesting items and have them come in when they have the store empty and ready for filming. I know that they screen via internet write ins, and I would assume walk ins. Their "adventures" and anything involving Subway sandwiches is obviously staged.

But the people are real people with things to sell, and I think the negotiation is real. Rick may have foreknowledge of the stuff, but he seems to pretty much stick with the value the experts say, so I dont see much point to him knowing alot about items beforehand.

And yeah, Chumlees dumb thing is a shtick. Unfortunately, I dont think Coreys being a jerk thing is shtick, too.

What's great is watching him try and lowball his walk-ins, then act regretful/indignant when they walk back out with their clearly valuable merchandise :)

Its a real Pawn Shop folks, and Rick is good at his job, after all he is a successful business man. Are portions of the show staged, of course, also its television, which is entertainment, which in the final analysis is what its all about.

What tickled me is Chum called it an AK right before he shot. They are a hell of a set of characters. My wife and I got married in Vegas and we met them. Chum isnt as dumb as he acts, it actually suprised me some of the stuff he knew. Great people though, as nice as can be.
That is because he plays a part...and it is a SHOW.

A great deal of it is scripted...key word...show.

Oh yeah, when we were there, they were filming. They went over a few things over and over. The funnier things that were said were improved though. The shop is ALOT smaller than it looks on TV. Part of it was roped off for the filming. After they finished filming, they quickly allowed ALOT more people in. We were standing at the door watching until they were finished. They even had water nozzles set up to mist water on people waiting outside. I talked to Antwan (security guy) the most. Not as much is scrited as people think, the producers will say " lets shoot this again but this time do this". But there were no teleprompters or anything. It was basically Rick and the guys getting edited alot more than anything. One deal (Abe Lincoln coin bank) took almost 30 minutes. The guy and Rick talked forever. So they edited and used 3-5 minutes of footage.

With all of the awesome Pre-96 guns they get, it's astounding to me that they don't give in and get an FFL. I would bet lots of people would like to sell their milsurps and such.

Here my wife and I are with the Old Man

You've just been looking for an excuse to post pictures of your hot wife, haven't you?

Do you think you can run a successful pawn shop and not be knowledgable on all the items somebody might bring in to pawn?

Neat pics though.

Yeah, I am lucky she loves shooting and supports my firearm addiction 100%. I would kill to go out in the desert with the Pawn Stars guys and shoot some weapons. Seriously though the Pawn Star crew are nice, seem pretty down to earth. As someone else said too though, I liked the Cajun Pawn Stars too, wish they had new episodes.

This is called staging or setting up a scene Sam

I think the negotiation is real.

No, it's not. Predetermined by the producers.

Rick may have foreknowledge of the stuff, but he seems to pretty much stick with the value the experts say, so I dont see much point to him knowing alot about items beforehand.

He's sticking to the script and the show's premise, which is not based in reality (because it's tv and it's not real) that's the point of the visiting experts - because it's the History Channel.

The part that is missing from the show is the actual pawn shop. Pawn shops are not about buying and selling. They are about writing loans and collecting interest. It is extremely rare that they actually show a pawn transaction on the show.

Again, it is great entertainment, but it is not reality. Even if the people and items brought in are 'real'

Cjohnson that is so cool you getting to meet them.
You said when talking about you wife being a hottie thanks that was a long time ago. What are you saying she's not now.

Just trying to get something started. I am in greenville sc. That is not to far from you.

I was filmed for the show dog town on nat geo. Nothing was staged on it. The show was canceled befor they used our part. They have to spice it up some. Who wants to watch people come in and sell their junk all day.

I couldn't understand him.
You would think with all the money they have they would buy enough land to have their own range.
