So my reward for quitting smoking is going to be that I get to order a new gun when we get our next tax refund - I'd prefer a Colt, but it doesn't have to be.

I'll have ~$1500 or so to put into the gun ($1750 max)

Necessities -

Full size or commander
Beavertail grip safety
Bobbed or flat MSH
Carry sights
High polish, matte blued, or black oxide/parked (no stainless or aluminum)
Series 70 firing system
Steel frame
Single stack

So given my price limit, what are my options in a new stock or semi-custom gun? I know I can't afford a Baer, Brown, or Nighthawk new. I can't find prices on Colts anyplace. I've been looking at Fusion, and I like some of their offerings in my price range, but I'd like to see what else is out there, that I may not know about.

I'd just like to say congrats on kicking the smokes! I know how darn hard it is to quit so props to you, you deserve a present from yourself and what better way than with a new gun!

Thanks - I'm on the patch now, but if day 1 is this easy (compared to trying to quit without the patch - 4 failed attempts before) then it'll be a piece of cake.

Plus having a new 1911 to look forward to when I'm still hurting from selling my Colt recently will help a LOT.

I recently looked at a Dan Wesson bobtailed commander. It was a very nice gun, and I believe it fit all of your requirements and was in your price range.

Good luck on your search and congrats on giving up smokes.

That's another one I'm looking into, but then I've been thinking - this is going to be a family heirloom. I want to pass it down to my son in time, and (hopefully) be around to see him pass it down to his son. I'm having a hard time deciding because of that - I want to go with a company I know will be around in another 40 or 50 years. So far, in my head, Colt is the only company that stands out. - They're also the only company with the famous Colt Royal Blue - my preferred finish.

I would get the Colt.

As for smoking you can do it Been smoke free since Aug 2003. I did easy way spent 3 weeks unconscious in Intensive Care. When they woke me up I no longer wanted to smoke. Only cost a couple 100 grand.

Once you quit. Stay quit. I quit on patch once was good for about 3 months . Smoked just one then another hey its ok 1 now and then. Wrong . You will come back with twice the habit.
You can do it and the Colt at end will be reward. Better yet but a Les Bare their at upper end of your price range .

Les Baer are completely out of my range - His lowest priced gun (this WILL be a new, built for me gun) will be out of my price range by the time I have the changes I want added on (bobbed MSH, low profile carry sights, etc etc). The same goes for Nighthawk and Ed Brown - I just won't have that kind of money to spend.
