Pictures of your range shooting wounds

I'm 99% sure that stuff is just repackaged clear nail polish.
You used to be able to buy the same stuff out of vending machines in bowling alleys. It was call "Bowlers Thumb". I think putting it on hurt so darned much, you just forgot about the blister or whatnot that caused you to put it on in the first place.

I had an S&W 586 that was spitting lead from the gap. My buddy had the great idea to hold up a piece of paper to see how bad it was. Only he didn't hold the paper from the rear. He dangled it with his thumb and first finger about 6" away but in line with the gap. Little speckles of blood appeared in a perfectly straight line; along with a spew of cussing.....

Same buddy also conked himself below his eye with the scope on my 7mm-08 XP-100. (I'll leave it to the reader to imagine how he did that!) Years later, he still has a nice half-moon scar on his cheekbone.

Maybe these tales should have gone in the "dumbest thing you ever did with a gun" that's underway....

Sorry, no pictures, as this happened a while ago. Back in 2008, I was doing some retention-position shooting (From the lower-rib-ish area) when I messed up and forgot to angle the gun outward. The slide going back from firing jammed me in my rib cage a few times because I was doing rapid fire. It was a 10mm G20SF. It hurt pretty bad. :uhoh:

I don't know if it did any serious damage, but it hurt so bad for several days I'm sure the bone was somewhat fractured, but I never went to get it checked out, just waited the pain out. I now angle the gun out a little bit when doing that drill lol. ;)

Oh, I also got a really nasty slice on my index finger from dragging the corner of an old t-shirt across a REALLY sharp rail guide inside my 870. That crap hurt more than a freaking paper cut and I actually took immediate first aid precaution because the gun was dirty and I didn't want to be infected by any lead or residue.

Well 50 years back while pheasant hunting I had to get a lead shot out of the back of my left hand, thanked my cousin :uhoh: it had glanced off something and hit me.

Above is a pic of the kiss my little Airweight likes to give me after extended +P range sessions.

I've had a couple cases of scope eye over the years. Getting hit with hot brass is a weekly occurance. I barely even flinch anymore. Once brass was raining on me so bad I had to put the hood of my sweatshirt on to keep it off of me. The guys at the range and I decided that gangstas probably wear them just to keep from getting hit by flying brass during drive by's.

First time out shooting my TRR8 Revolver (first revolver), I fired some .38 special to warm up, then shot the .357. I had never heard that causes sticky cases. After shooting, I pushed on the extractor plunger with my thumb, of course it was stuck. And then, and do not ask me why, I whacked my thumb on top of the plunger with the side of my strong hand, kicking out the casings.

Works just like a hole punch  God, it took forever for that to heal, right in the middle of my thumb-pad, too.

Oh, and I once tried to roll a hot .308 casing from my FNAR out from under my forearm. Baaad idea; what would have been a small welt had I raised my arm, would now be a 6" long burn scar...

Why haven't we heard any tales of Garand thumb, Hakim Hand, or anything from that guy on Youtube who shot the .460NE pistol (that was the best :D)? I am glad to hear no one's been shot at their range, I've seen some scary things there...

A friend had a Ruger P90 that sent the brass straight up. It would land in your collar, behind your glasses and sometimes land and stay on top of your head. One time a piece of brass landed in the breech just as it was closing on another round and pinched the mouth of the case. (not a failure to feed, 2nd round in a rapid fire string landed in the breech as the 4th round was being chambered)

My daughter would catch my 7.62x25 brass from my CZ-52. The next time she wore gloves.

I had a .223 case burn me right on the shoulder... how it managed that, I don't know.

I grabbed the barrel of the AK after about 200 rounds in a short amount of time... remember to look at the gun you're going to grab... had a pretty nasty burn for a few weeks.

Had a .44 Ruger (Super Blackhawk? Redhawk?) kaboom. Not my gun, not my ammo, and no injuries aside from a nice peppering and powder burn on the hand.

I actually had a piece of a jacket fly into my neck yesterday while at the local indoor range. I couldn't believe it. It was from the guy shooting next to me. I'm not sure what range maintenance consists of but maybe the bullet stop needs to be cleaned or changed. Didn't hurt too bad but creeped me out plenty.

Years ago I met an old man who was blind in one eye and wore a patch. During training in WWII he was watching someone shoot a .45 and a piece of brass hit him in the eye like a cookie cutter. Doctors tried to save his eye but it became infected and after a year and a couple of failed surgeries they had to remove it.

I dont have pics but somehow a .45acp casing got into my pants and rested between my butt cheaks. It left 2 burn marks.

I received a cut on my hand when attempting to remove the drum from a brand new Thompson. It was stuck, and when it finally moved, it slid through quickly, causing my hand to get cut by the magwell.

I've done the hot-brass polka a few times, but my worst range injury was from some Buffalo Bore +P .45 loads in my Bisley Blackhawk. The recoil & muzzle flip was driving the hammer back into the base/web area of my thumb and gouging hard. I have three nice scars there now, each about 1cm long. Aside from that I've had a couple of slide bites, hammer bites, purple shoulders, bruised cheekbones, and one slightly bloody nose. Shot a lot of hard-recoiling guns over the years that fit me poorly...

Most memorable-
M-1 thumb, I was single-feeding one at a Highpower match when I was about 14 or 15. Learned that lesson, be careful.

Hammer of my S&W 19 .357 Magnum. Caught myself the first time I tried rapid firing it with full power ammo. Opened up a nice flap of skin on the web of my thumb.

Brass burns. Wore shorts at a Highpower match, suffered from brass burns on my legs at the 600 yard line. Actually, this is a recurring thing, but I refuse to shoot in long pants on the hottest of hot days. Have caught a coule of cases off the side of my face while shooting prone slow as well.

I shot my self in the thumb with an nail gun once, 6in nail, and only once! to a 2 by 4 ;) Does that count

Put a finish nail through a finger, did not hit bone (lucky!)

I was holding a piece of trim up, the nail hit something and did a 160 and went through the finger. Stung a bit.

No photos, but I have a burn on my neck from the guy to my left at a high power match last year when he sent a hot 30-06 brass shell down my neck. Big flinch, which scored me a 7 on the shot and 97 for the target:(, now I wear a hoody under my shooting jacket and a hat with side flaps. I can ignore the ones bouncing off my head but not the ones trapped between my coat and my neck sizzling away.

Don't have any pictures but my brother-in-law got caught by a hail of my hot AK-47 Steel cases he said hurt like *^#! Some of them went down his shirt and he was dancing around like he actually got shot by a high power pellet rifle! (I hate to admit this but it was kind of funny, even his wife was laughing at him.) I did have a .9X19mm brass case fly up and get stuck in my shooting glasses between my forehead and the frame years ago. Since then I have always worn a hat, and never had it happen since.
