I Never Thought This Would Happen!

I may change over from carrying a revolver to a semi-auto. That's right, the Earth is going to turn backwards!

Even though I have always felt well armed carrying a revolver things are changing around here and there are several gangs moving in to the nearby bigger cities. That added to the impending reports of doom on Dec 21st, well, a semi-auto or two just might be in line!

I'm thinking of buying a SIG P226 Mk25 as a main sidearm and a newly released SIG P938 as a BUG. The Mk25 holds 15+1 9mm rounds and the P938 holds 6+1 9mm rounds. I just might get those 2 pistols if I can scrape up the money without selling too many of my other guns.

My second or fallback plan is to go with S&W. I'm thinking about buying a S&W M&P9 and the S&W M&P Shield, both in 9mm. That combination will cost me about half of what the SIG combo will but then again, those aren't SIG's. The Shield comes with a 7 round flush fit 7rd magazine and a slightly longer 8rd magazine. It's a true M&P but with a single stack magazine and it's thin...

Any comments or suggestions are welcome but hurry before the Earth's orbit changes! LOL
 
Just use your revolver as your bug. Sounds like your familiar with the platform. I have carried the Shield and it's the most comfortable of all. It's so thin.

How is a revolver or semi gonna stop the Apocalypse?

I'm not so sure bullets will even work, like computers after Y2K...

Can't go wrong with either choice thou
 
I vote for the M&P pair. Same trigger, same manual of arms between them. Can't say that about the two Sigs cited.

Use the savings to buy mags and ammo.
 
I carry a five shot revolver myself. I just started carrying a medium sized backpack with extra ammo, leatherman, extra knife, stone, extra meds, and some odds and ends. I admit its mostly left in the car if I'm at work or out but its always close.

Something tells me its a good idea.;)
 
Another combo to consider is a Glock 19 and a Kahr PM9. I carry a revolver alot off duty, a 3" 65. Theres just something reassuring about a good revolver. But, often, especially if I am travelling by air, the Glock 19 and Kahr combo goes along. One box of ammo to feed both, high cap if I want, super easy to conceal and carry Kahr if I choose.
 
I typically carry an EAA witness of 18+1 capacity. I have a KLCR as a BUG. I carry it in case of malfunction or loss of primary arm, I doubt I will be in a gunfight long enough to expend nearly 20 rounds.
 
I'm going to speed up that orbit change. I never thought I would say this, but for what you want to do I would go with Glah... Gul... Dang it! Glock. There, I said it.

I've had the M&P and it was very nice, if lacking in personality. I held a 9mm Shield once but they have since become extremely rare around here. The advantage Glock has over them is once they are broken in you have the ability to load the magazines without a magazine loader. With my hand strength I can't say that about the M&P.

The Glock will probably price out slightly higher than the Smith options, but much cheaper than the Sigs. It's also easier to get night sights put on them than it would be the Smiths, but the Sigs come with them.

If Glock is not what you want, and I can certainly understand that with the love them or leave them audience they enjoy, the Smiths would be the way I would go.
 
Glock 17 and 26 share 17 magazines. Of your choices I would get the S&Ws. Or, more likely, shop for a full size semiauto and keep your revolver as the BUG.
In your position, shouldn't you be shopping long guns? :D
 
Massad Ayoob recommends a Snubby as backup to a semi and with good reason I think. Simple manual of arms and especially if hammerless, a better shape for drawing from a pocket.

That MK25 looks like an outstanding pistol, though I don't like DA/SA semi's.

Though I prefer H&K pistols, you can't go wrong with either of the possible choices you mention. I've owned SIGs and Smith & Wesson M&Ps and I would trust my life with either. As a testament to this, I just bought my daughter a Smith M&P9c.

As you can guess I also carry a revolver and have done so ever since i was "allowed" to carry.

As for a Glock, the only way I would shoot a Glock is if it was the only gun available and the Zombies were within 10 feet of me!! :p
Sorry, I just do not like Glocks AT ALL...
 
of the two listed i would go with the sig combo. they are very nice guns and the SA trigger on the 938 should be a BIG help in the way of accurate shooting with such a small gun.
 
nobody sticks around to see who gets shot next.....but carry what makes you feel better.

+1, extra ammo no matter what you carry is the name of the game. I likewise carry a 5 shot revolver as my primary carry. Hopefully never need to put it to the test, but for the most likely CCW scenarios, it should be enough.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you can transition from a double-action with a decocker to a single-action with a thumb safety that has to be disengaged first.
 
I've got both. I get in a revolver mood now and then and if I can belt carry, I really like the .357 magnum from a 3" or longer barrel. It's a butt kicker. :D But, I will carry my .38 snub, too, when the mood strikes. All my guns have one thing in common, no safeties, fire DA at LEAST on the first shot. My .45 is a decock only Ruger. My pocket subcompact 9 is a DAO. I occasionally carry a little Radom P64 which is a DA gun, but I rarely carry that one.

Hey, I can live with both platforms! :D
 
Shoot, field strip, and re-assemble the 938 before you buy it. Nice gun, but there are a lot of other options for a lot less money. Short barrel semi's do have their limitations. Racking slides, jam's,ammo sensitive, etc. This is coming from a guy that owns abd carrys a Shield, Kahr PM9, or Seecamp LWS .32. All function perfectly but s**t happens.

The 226 is a great gun and with a Mec-Gar mag, will hold a couple more rounds and they are totally reliable. If I was confronted by a gang and needed lots of firepower, the SIG is for me. My Shield is also a great gun but not a pocket gun. If your revolver is a small one, keep it as your BUG. Also you can save a lot of money by buying a older W.German 226 and get arguably one of the best firearms ever made. The only difference is the lack of night sights. Cutting your replacement needs to one gun will let you look at the SIG catalog in a whole new light if you want a new one.

ive looked at a few, and the only two i can think of off the top of my head where two bad guys were shot from not drive bys were when their co-criminal was shot and they tried to help them get up and got shot too.

i cant think of a shooting im familiar with where one bad guy was shot and his buddy kept going on the attack and had to be shot too. hell, even the hollywood bank robbers with body armor were trying to get away from the firefight. but i wasnt involved in that one.
