Having second thoughts about the gun I just ordered.

I did have a S&W 686 revolver on my mind for a next purchase. But lately I've been doing a lot of plinking which influenced my latest purchase, a single action only CZ 75. I have some preban mags for CZ's, and fifteen rounds before a reload sounds like a lot of fun on the plinking range. Only six rounds not as much fun. But shooting .357's at my plinking targets could be fun also.

I already have two 1911's and a ruger mk2, so the CZ would just be another semi auto in the collection. The S&W would stand out from the rest being the only revolver.

The cheap price of 9mm was a factor. But with the S&W I could reload .357 and .38 with 100% recovery of brass. But with the CZ 9mm's so cheap I don't have to worry about reloading or scrounging on the floor for brass. I'll be able to shoot then leave without picking up any brass, and have a clear conscience.

This will be my last purchase until I'm more well off financially. Eventually I'd probaly end up with both so the question is... Which one first? The CZ's on order so I still have time to change my mind back to the 686 Smith.

Once you shoot a CZ, you won't remember what other one you wanted! OK, maybe I am a LITTLE biased.... Seriously, I say the CZ is an outstanding value, more than you pay for. If you can't stand it, I'll pay you in installements for it....:p

The CZ is a FINE handgun. You won't be sorry you bought it.

That said you won't be sorry you picked up a wheel gun either. Look for a used M15 or a M19, great shooters and the prices on them are fantastic. A good used M15 or a M19 will be under $300 and they shoot as good as anything you have ever had in your hand. Some DA revolver practice will also make you a LOT better auto shooter in short order.

While the CZ is great and fun to shoot, the M686 would allow you to go up and down the power scale at will expanding the plinking horizons.

Get that 686 and have it moonclipped and you could shoot it almost as fast as that cz. and still have all of your brass in a pile at your feet.

Wildgottagun4saleAlaskas price is a great one and have him cut the cylinder before he shipped it.....

Let me go with the apparent trend!

First of all I am lucky enough to own both the 686 and a CZ75 and can see your problem. But, rest assured you will absolutely enjoy the CZ. It is a fine, fine pistol and you will enjoy it immensely. With the proper selection of holster and belt it can also serve as a very good concealed carry weapon. With a hicap mag that is pretty good self defense.

I would concur with those that urge you to eventually get both the CZ and the 686 but as to which one first? The CZ is less expensive as is 9mm ammo so I think you made the right choice first. First the CZ and then, when finances allow, the S&W. Good shooting;)

I have taken the other route. I have a 686 4", and am currently waiting for the funds so I can buy a CZ P-01.

While shooting 15 before reloading would definitely be fun, reloading revolvers is fun in itself!

Shooting my 686 has caused me to be very relaxed while shooting, and I take my time reloading.

Either way, they are both great, and I want a P-01!

I own two of each.

I own two CZ-75Bs (9mm and 40 S&W) and two S&W 686s (4" and 6"). I like them both (or rather, all four).

I'd suggest you get the 686 because it is a different action type then all your other hand guns. It's a nice break to shoot a revolver when you've been shooting semiautos.

The CZ will shoot very nicely right out of the box, the 686 will need a trigger job, but put 500 or so rounds through it first.

This is a tough decision, CZ 75 or S&W 686...I say get 'em both, you won't be sorry you did. Both are mighty fine weapons.:D

I have a 586, and several high cap 9mm's (not a CZ). I can tell you this, when I spend a day shooting the 9mm's a lot, my thumbs are sore for a day or two from loading mags. (I know, buy a mag loading tool!). At the same time, it is nice to shoot more than six before reloading. And, a revolver is a bit more of a pain to clean.

My point? Get the CZ, as it should be fun, and 9mm ammo is cheap. Save some funds ($300 ought to do nicely), and find yourself a nice used revolver. Shoot them both, and enjoy arguing this debate in your head for years to come. ;)

get the CZ!

After my dad bought a RAMI when they first came out, I've been hooked on CZs. In fact, I just bought a two-tone 75 B yesterday. 200 rounds and I'm hooked. :)

Wildalaska sez:

Dang, I had a 686 but I put it up for auction on Auction Arms, its a no lock model, sitting there at $299...

Ain't sittin' there no more...it be MINE now!:D

Well, as soon as I send the $$, anyways...:uhoh:

Well my usual post purchase doubts are gone. Now I'm just looking forward to shooting my CZ. I'm sure I'll end up with a Smith eventually. Maybe sooner than I expected, I'm headed to the big reno show next week. I'll be keeping an eye out for a C&R S&W revolver .22 or .357.

That 686 you had for sale would've been sweet WA. But being from CA I don't know if I could have bought it.

I have a CZ 75B .40, and it is a really great gun, and it is a keeper. However, I would always want to have at least one wheelgun in with the rest of the semi-autos. My Model 27 S&W revolver adds a litttle variety to my shooting, and I like it a lot.

I think you'll like the CZ!!

Of the two, it would be my choice!
I had one for a while, but let a friend talk me out of it...silly choice, cause then he sold it to someone else without telling or asking me!
It a very nice pistol, reliable and accurate. I am looking around for another, slightly used one and plan on getting a Kadet .22 conversion unit for it. It'll be my cheap plinking car gun with 15 rounds on tap.
I love my 1911's, but for 9m/m...I take a CZ(and Kahr PM9 for BUG).

Greeting's Again All-

I'm going to take the other route as well, and recommend the
Smith & Wesson 686. I have a -5 model (no intergal lock) that
is really a sweet shooter. The 6" tube makes it very hard to
miss the target! :D

:D Guess who just added a S&W 586 to their collection? So I ended up with both a lot sooner than expected. Went to a gun show today. The guy who did the FFL Transfer on my CZ had a 586 on consignment. Went back today and grabbed it.
