Your Six Series. Security, Service, and Speed, what do you think of them

I only have two Security Sixes, a 2-3/4" and a 4". Both of them are a pleasure to shoot and the 2-3/4" makes for a very nice carry gun.

I bought the grips, then I found a gun for them.......

Found a rare pair of Farrant grips at a gunshow for $15 (the seller didn't know what they were, or what gun they were for). I knew they weren't for a S&W, and guessed they might be for a Ruger. After confirming that on a friend's gun, I watched on gunbroker, and got a very nice Security Six from before the "warning", and could not have acquired a better .357. Even with the still stiff action, it shoots like a dream, and is my only .357. ................................................................................... [/IMG]

My well used Service six I was allowed to buy when I retired. Had a choice between that and the wundernine that replaced it. A no brainer on my part

My scarred up Security Six. Saw her looking desperate in a used gun case. She'd been sitting there for nearly a year, neglected and overlooked due to her disfiguring scars on her right side.
I took her home for about $190.00 OTD. She's got a great action, very accurate, and very reliable. She handles full tilt .357mag loads (DT and BB 158gr loads, specifically) like a dream.
She now wears Pachmyer grips and is my hiking/woods carry gun and even pulls nightstand duty pretty frequently.
I love having a gun where I don't have to care about the finish!

My Speed Six

NYPD Service Six .38 Special.

When I was first shooting, I had all Smiths, my buddy had a Ruger Security Six. I liked it, but, it just wasn't a "Smith and Wesson".

I'm now a bunch older and smarter and appreciate what a fine revolver Ruger makes. I own and SP-101, an SPNY the Service Six and an Old Army. And, I now actively look for the old Six series.

Gunbroker is probably one of the worst places to get a gun for a good price. I'm not a fan of that site... (not that it's the site's fault but the people who bid there)

I guess it depends where you live, I have no options locally for finding new or used guns at a decent price. new go for full retail, used go for a little under retail.
Also happy with the 3 guns i have bought off GB

I'm not saying all online auctions are poor and I realize there are places where there are no local options. There are better auctions online like Gunsamerica.com and a few others you can Google.

Instead of Ebay for gun related products you can try Ebang.com. They also have gun auctions.
