Just wanting to see by show of hands what is your favorite of the ruger six series (service, speed, security).

please specify caliber or any other details.

My favorite would have to be the blued 4" heavy barrel (I think it was considered the non-tapered barrel), Security-Six. And maybe after you're done voting here go to Ruger's website and write a short note to the CEO asking him to consider reissuing the Six series revolvers, even if it's just a limited run.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just get one. I've had a couple and I suppose my "favorite" would have been the 4" Security-Six in Stainless, but then I just like 4", medium frame, 38/357's.

I like my revolver barrels short and my revolvers as concealable as possible and as less prone to rust as possible so I go with the Stainless 2.75" Speed Six.

I mean no offense, nor do I intend to start a flame war. What is so significant about these vs the GP series that seems to generate a cult-like following?

I find the GP100 to be a great size gun for .357. The SP101 is also nice, but for all-day shooting the bigger gun helps soak up the recoil a bit more.

I love a Smith K-frame for .38 Specials - I think the GP series is almost too big for "just" Specials unless they are serious hot-rods.

Was the Six-series more in like with a K-frame? If so, I could see the love.

The difference between a "six" and a GP is the grip frame. A six has a grip frame like a smith and wesson. The GP has a grip frame more like a dan wesson.

Other than that I think they are quite similar, but I've never owned a GP so I don't know for sure.

The Six-series competed with the S&W K-frame and was generally acknowledged as being stronger...having been designed for the .357Mag from the outset. You didn't get the same objections that are hurled at the GP-100, compared to the L-frame, of being too heavy or bulky.

The Six-series really was stronger at the same size. The main objection was the the Ruger's action was harder to tune as it was enclosed in the solid frame...it can actually be tuned very comparably. One advantage or disadvantage, depending on your point of view, is that the Six-series didn't rattle like the GP or SP pistols do...it's ejector rod rotated with the cylinder...the off-set for this is the better lockup of the GP and SP series at the front of the cylinder

I can carry my Service six 4in much easier than I can a gp100. so I guess I have made my choice, Service six stainless 4in. I may change my mind and go with a Security six 4in. Ughhhhhh! this is hard! If I didnt have a sp101 I would vote for a Speed six 2.75. Can I vote for ALL of them?

Where is the option for a 6.5" SS SINGLE SIX..My vote for the best Ruger Six.....:neener::)

I've seen a couple of those, they look really cool but is there any other bennifit to having the colt barrel?

...well, besides the fact that they hang better than any standard factory barrel that ever came on a Ruger.

The Colt barrel is optimized for accuracy due to it's twist rate and choked bore

Although I like all of the Ruger Six Series revolvers, I'm partial to the fixed sight Service and Speed Sixes in the shorter barrel lengths. The Security-Six can't be left out either-as they are all great looking revolvers-even in the 6" barrel length. But again, I still prefer the shorter barrel lengths in the Security-Six, as well. Following, are just a sampling of some of my favorite Security/Service/Speed-Six revolvers in my collection:

I really love how those 2.75" blued speed sixes look, as much as I like them though I always feel like I would be losing something big in ballistics.
