One of the petitions to the Whitehouse calling on the POTUS to oppose an AWB was closed instead of staying open and accumulating signatures with a "response" from VP Biden's Chief of Staff Bruce Reed.

The President said it best: "Ultimately if this effort is to succeed it's going to require the help of the American people -- it's going to require all of you. If we're going to change things, it's going to take a wave of Americans -- mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, pastors, law enforcement, mental health professionals -- and, yes, gun owners -- standing up and saying 'enough' on behalf of our kids."

So let's continue this conversation and get something meaningful done. If you have additional ideas and are interested in further engagement with the White House on this issue, please let us know and share your thoughts here:

Thank you for speaking out and staying involved.

Bruce Reed is Chief of Staff to Vice President Biden

The petition site set up by the Office of the President itself says,
Creating a duplicate or similar petition will make it harder for you to get an official response. Instead, sign and help promote the one that has already been created.

The official response amounts to "We don't need to hear from any more of you on this issue.". That may be true since the issue is already in front of the Whitehouse, but isn't it important for the Executive to see how many people independently oppose any approval of an AWB?

Perhaps the best thing to do is send individual emails and letters to the President specifically saying we expect him to veto any AWB and to each of our elected officials at the local, state and national level telling them to oppose an AWB since it does not address the root cause of the Newtown massacre, contains unconstitutional provisions violating the rights of individuals protected under the 2nd Amendment and of companies under interstate commerce, and treats 200+million people as if they were the 1 criminally insane young man that slaughtered the school children at Sandy Hook elementary school.

Sounds about right. They are not open to opposing opinions or what the American People want. It is going to go just like ObamaCare if they have their way.

Wow. Seems like this really is the perfect storm right about now. Let's keep our due diligence and contact our politicians. Make your voices heard while you are still "allowed"!

Is anyone seriously surprised by this? How about someone simply start another one that petitions against gun control. Start fifty. Start two more every time they close one. Start a petition that Bruce Reed keep his hands off the pro-gun petitions. Watch how "democratic" the administration can be.

I bitterly regret cheering when this man got back into office.

Since then I've had a rude awakening as to exactly what this man is.

Ron Paul wouldn't have done this if he won.

"Dear Mr. President please veto this piece of legislation that is actually what you've wanted all along."

Dear Mr. President, please uphold the constitution as you swore in your oath of office. Veto the unconstitutional assault weapon ban if it makes it's way to your desk. As a registered Democrat and a law abiding citizen I oppose the passage or renewal of an unconstitutional gun ban or registration scheme.

Thank you

This will bite them later. Of that I am certain. In the same way that a newspaper publishing names and addresses of registered gun owners clearly illustrates for the masses why we oppose registration; Awful as the act was for the poor folks on that map, they really did us a favor in the long run. Now fence sitters can see how the abuses happen, why registration isn't "harmless". Likewise, people can see the implications of our voices being muffled or muted by MSM and our own government; Us today, them tomorrow.

Dear Mr. President, please uphold the constitution as you swore in your oath of office.

He's already gone 4 years without doing that I doubt he'll start now. And I really doubt he'll start respecting the constitution with the second amendment.

If only that were true Mach look at Operation F@F, Benghazi , Obama Care ,Solyndra and many more. We wouldn't even know about them if it wasn't for Fox news. The Libs do not care what our president messes up they just want to watch CNN NBC or some other state ran media and hear how times are a getting better.47% of America just want free stuff the other 5% are just idiots[sorry mods sick of trying to paint a pretty picture]

So essentially the only petitions that will be allowed to get large and remain openly visible as having support on thier site will be those which are anti-gun, and not those which are pro-gun.

Pro gun petitions with too many signatures hurt the agenda and will be shut down, kept from being too visible.

In fact had they had the reverse and the anti-gun petitions had plenty I am sure they would have waived it around as proof that the American people are speaking and calling for restrictions.
It would have been given its full time to shine, and promoted as a basis for legislation.

I see theres a gun ban in the horizon , be it hook or crook. They will do it. They got the second mandate and no matter what they will make it happen.

Exactly, the polls said 70% of americans opposed obamacare - didn't make one bit of difference and they snuck it in the back door in the dead of night. :banghead:

Expect the same shenannigans with an AWB. "I can't wait on congress, I've got to act now." :cuss:

They learned something from the November " Texas Secession" petition that collected 117,000 signatures in two weeks...

THE PRESS NOTICED. The press was surprised at the numbers, surprised at the speed, shocked at the breadth of support. They began yammering for a White House response on their own. (I've not seen one).

The Obama WH learned the importance of minimizing the appearance of opposition by killing them early and blowing them off as insignificant.

The (frankly expected) hypocritical, cherry picking approach to their public commitment to "dialogue" makes this nothing more than political sock puppet theater from the oval office.

Anybody reminded of "Romper Room"?

You all do know that the online "petition" thing is just a way for the prez to get between the populace and congress, right? The hope is people will continue to look even more toward the president for answers/guidance as opposed to their own congressional representatives! The people who actually make and break legislation in this country (for now).

I've always said those petitions were a joke. Now the WH has proven it.
So is there a way we can get the press to notice they are being blatantly one sided in their public discourse?

Cheering when he got back into office? Ron Paul? You mean you were considering voting for Ron Paul and you voted for Obama instead? Obama is on record as one of the most aggressive opponents of guns. His record as president, however, has been one of waiting until the moment was right to pursue his real agenda. Strict limitations and outright bans on commonly owned guns is just the beginning of what he and his party have in mind. To many of us this comes as nothing of a surprise. I fail to understand how someone with connections to an interest in the right to keep and bear arms could not have seen this coming.

NOT THE TIME to stick knives in each others' backs.

IS THE TIME to stick together and fight to preserve our rights.

It's called the cult of the presidency. We love kings. That's why kings have ruled since the beginning of time. We finally break away from that and we've been slowly giving the executive branch king-like powers and king-like exultation. We really deserve what we get. We've been doing a good job screwing things up for a hundred years by not reigning in increasingly powerful executive powers that were never intended to be there Gene Healy wrote a great book of a similar title, which was a free download promoa t one point in time. http://www.amazon.com/Cult-Presidency-Americas-Dangerous-Executive/dp/1933995157
