Shoot it first. I've never noticed a huge difference, of course I don't keep a rifle if it does not show a lot of potential right from the start. If I cannot get sub MOA with weaking I am capable of I've found it easier and cheaper to take a small loss on a trade than pay a gunsmith to fine tune a gun.

The actual accuracy will change little, but with a wood stock you may find it more consistent in changing environmental conditions.

you should pillar bed and skim bed the action... if you are wanting to get the absolute most out of the bedding process. Both can be done by a DIYer. I just did my Stevens 200 in new boyds walnut stock. It was my second bedding job.

Rifles can shoot well with no bedding. Some don't gain much from bedding. Some have issues such a bad crowns or scope mounting the is haphazard. Shoot it and establish a baseline.

What rifle, stock and ammo? Ammo can make a big difference. If you don't handload there are some big gains to be had there.

what gun is it? allot of guns come bedded already. you might hurt the value if you alter a classic. Get a bedded stock and tuck the original away for safe keeping.

REM, I got the 700 ADL Varmint and most people agreed to replace the one I have because the stock is so crappy that I cannot really know how accurate it is.

I think yours comes with the hogue overmold though, and even though it is not the best I think it is much better than what came on mine.

the weakest leg in the accuracy tripod is usually the shooter.

what kind of groups are you getting now? What kind of groups do you see with other rifles?

What ammo are you using?

Then, once you are sure that you are a better rifleman than the rifle, you can think about things like triggers and bedding actions.

if I get it bedded can I still have a trigger installed later

Yes, but most aftermarket triggers are larger than the factory's so sometimes it is necessary to increase the inletting around the trigger housing and enlarge the trigger opening in the floorplate.

Ramone (REM... not trying to hijac.....)

What are the other two legs? I am new to accuracy shooting.
Accuracy requires a accurate Rifleman, using accurate Ammo, in an accurate rifle.

SO the tripod is Marksman/Rifle/Ammo
