Hey everyone

So I bought an old Hungarian FEG P9R. Its not a Hi-Power clone, its the one with the DA / SA trigger and Smith Model 59 features.

Anyway, I load up a magazine and try to chamber a round. The round FTF. So I download the magazine and try it with less rounds, because maybe its a spring issue. Same thing, every round consistently FTF. So I think it might be the feed ramp. I check it, it looks good.

I then put only ONE round in the magazine, hold the magazine to keep it from wiggling, hold the gun upside so it can even be assisted with gravity, and the damndest thing happened....the round stays in the magazine The slide goes forward, but doesn't take the round with it.

I'm leaning towards it being a magazine issue, but I'm completely stumped.

Any help?!?!?!

I know this may seem like a rather stupid question, but are you using the right ammo for the gun? Even if you are, trying pulling the barrel out of the gun and seeing if a single round will freely drop into the chamber.

If that works, then look into getting another magazine and seeing if that solves your issues.

I take no offense to that question, but yes I am using the right ammunition. The round seats fine inside the chamber without a magazine, and ejects perfectly.

Unless....The gun is incorrectly stamped P9M rather than P9R. Maybe CAI shipped the wrong magazine... I dunno

I'd try a new magazine next. You might also want to check the extractor and see if it will allow the rim of a case to fit under it and then see if it will the extractor will hold the round against the breach without it falling out.

Another thing to look for, with the gun and magazine empty, and the mag inserted into the pistol, does the slide lock back if you try to cycle it?

If not you either have the wrong magazine for the gun, or the mag spring is totally finished.

OPs post was a bit confusing at first, I had to reread it a couple times.
FTF can mean fail to fire or fail to feed.
Sounds like the magazine was switched for a browning high power/ FEG P9 type magazine, the P9R uses a magazine similar to the S&W 59 which is taller than the Hi-Power type magazine
Here is a link to available 10 shot magazines for the gun
http://www.ammoclip.com/F/feg_p9r.htm
The FEG P9 magazine is listed as 4 3/8" tall and the P9R magazine is 4 7/16" tall so this sounds like what has happened.

Yea closer inspection yields my magazine looks nothing like the one in the last reply on my thread. I ordered some 10 rounders and am looking for a 15 rounder. I will continue to try my luck. Thanks for the help so far guys.

I have the FEG/Mauser P90DA which is a DA/SA version similar to OP's. Finding 10 rd magazines for it was an absolute bee-yotch. M59 mag was a no go. Finally wound up getting some P9R ProMags :)barf:). Wonder of wonders all 4 functioned perfectly.
