I am sure this subject was beaten to death but I want to purchase a g23 aftermarket barrel. I am looking at Stormlake and LW... Any big differences between them ? I read a lot of guys like LW and others swear by Stormlake...

Stormlake worth the extra 50 bucks ?

My preference would be KKM for a true drop in followed by Bar-Sto which may or may not require minor fitting. Lone Wolf quality control suffers.

I've bought eight Lone Wolf barrels and sold one; my experiences have been very positive. The ones I kept (son now has three) are: models 19 (2), 23 (357 Sig & 40 cal), 26, 20 and 30. I sold a model 27 40-9 conversion. I liked it so much I bought a model 26 gun so I didn't need the conversion barrel any longer.

I couldn't be happier.

Prefer Storm Lake after Lonewolf has recently gotten too liberal with their "case support".

G20 Lonewolf barrel on left purchased 10/2012. G20 Lonewolf barrel on right purchased 2/2009.

wow... quite a bit of difference. I wonder why they are taking a lot more meat off. Any chance you can give measurements on both ? Just curios..

No can do. I returned it the day I received it.

The one on the left in my previous post was a recent purchase of a 6" G20 Lonewolf barrel for my Longslide project. Did some research on other forums that are 10mm specific and apparently this is the norm for Lonewolf now...at least in 10mm. They were getting too many barrels returned because people were seating their bullets with too much C.O.L., or using certain large heavy cast bullets. Guess they got fed up with it and overcompensated by breaking down the chamber around the feedramp too much, at least too much for my liking.

It sucks, because I had up until recently been a big fan of Lonewolf barrels as they were a bit cheaper than Storm Lake. I have no idea if they have gotten this liberal with chamber support in all their barrels, or if it is only 10mm specific. Honestly if I was just doing a simple 40-9 conversion I would probably save myself some money and just go with Lonewolf. However, I shoot atomic loads out of my G-20 and G-20 Longslide and I want as much chamber support as possible for safety reasons, and I also want to extend the life of my brass as long as I safely can.

Recently purchased G20 6" Storm Lake support:

We are discussing 40S&W Glock 23 chamber support, not 10mm G20. I believe Lone Wolf G20 chamber support is different from G23 chamber support.

Below is a comparison picture of Lone Wolf G23 and G27 barrels to the left and factory Gen3 Glock 23 and G27 barrels bought last year to the right. I do want to give Glock credit for increasing the chamber tightness over the years but as you can see from the picture, chamber mouth is still generous. In comparison, Lone Wolf chamber and mouths are tighter and support all the way down to the case base. I also use Lone Wolf and KKM 40-9 conversion barrels and both LW/KKM barrels have been true "drop-in" with no need for any fitting and have run reliably.

I shoot various Missouri Bullet Company lead TCFP/SWC bullets (180/170/155/140 weights) sized .401" in my Lone Wolf barrels and I do not have issues with feeding/chambering loaded to 1.125" OAL with .422" taper crimp.

I use a Storm Lake .40S&W barrel in my G22. I like it a lot. I just purchased a Lone Wolf .357 Sig barrel designed for the G31, and have not had a chance to even drop it into the pistol yet. I'll get back to you guys on how it works.

BDS, are yours the earlier or later versions of LW as pictured on DAN-O post ?
I like the fit on the right vs the left on DAN_O picture. The ones you have pictured look pretty good as well ;)

I've been very satisfied with both Storm Lake and Lone Wolf barrels. I went with LW for threaded barrels for my G17L and a G22 9mm conversion because they were cheaper. The Storm Lake threaded barrels for my 9mm 1911 required some fitting but the 9mm conversion for my M&P40 dropped right in.

i have no experience with stormlake barrels, but i do have a lone wolf barrel in my glock 22 and have been completely satisfied with it. much better case support than the factory barrel. only thing i dont like about it is the laser engraved wolf head on it. not a big deal though; i like the barrel enough, i just learn to live with it.

I just picked up a lone wolf for my glock 19. I have taken it to the range 1 time and I am very happy with it. No issues an dgreat accuracy

Most of my Lone Wolf 40S&W and 40-9 conversion barrels are a few years old with the G23 40S&W and conversion barrels purchased being the latest end of last year.

As far as I know, I am not aware of Lone Wolf changing the chamber support on their 40S&W barrels.

You can call Lone Wolf customer service to verify before you order:

I have both. Prefer the Storm Lake because it does not have a wolf cartoon on top. Had to send the Wolf barrel back to get the chamber loosened up a bit in order to shoot reloads. It even stuck on some factory rounds it was so tight. Both work fine now.

+1 ... My favorite cast bullet for 10mm/40 cal is the Lee 175 grain TC traditional lube grove. I cast from a six cavity mold, size to .401" and lube with diluted LLA. A final dusting of MotorMica leaves them non tacky.

Loaded to your same OAL and neck diameter my Lone Wolf barrels in both 40 cal and 10mm have been flawless through at least 2,000 rounds each.

You'll get what you pay for. If looking for a bargin, you'll need luck on your side to get a Lone Wolf barrel at comparable quality to the other companies. Their quality control is not the greatest.

I had to do the same. Was a headache, but now it's all good.

I went storm lake. Had to send it back to have the chamber opened up a bit. Still waiting to get it back but it wasn't chambering factory ammo.
