How "hot" of a load can a Bond Arms Derringer 45/410 take?

Can a Bond Arms 45colt / 410 derringer take "ruger only" 45 colt loads. I know it would probably be too painful to try, but I am just curious.

NO!!

That are only rated for .410 & standard pressure .45 Colt as far as I know.

That would be 14,000 PSI .45 Colt loads, and 12,500 PSI .40 loads, max.

Thanks, I don't own one but saw one locally and it got me wondering. I know they make them in 44mag also so I wondered if the 45 colt version was made to the same levels

Knowing how painful some of those loads are in an actual Ruger, I would never try them in a derringer. That might tear flesh or even dislocate an index finger with the heaviest loads... No thanks.

hey probably do.

But the holes in a .44 are much smaller then the holes in a .410/.45.
So the chamber walls are thinner.

I own a Bond derringer with the 2" and 3" .45 Colt only barrels. I have shot the Buffalo Bore stuff through mine and everything on me still seems to work ok, except maybe my common sense. They generate a surprising amount of velocity out of such a short gun.

I owned a set of barrels in .44 mag. I shot 240 grain Winchester JSP ammo through it. I got 1100 FPS out of that gun. Recoil was better than a cup of stout coffee for waking you up.

I would be absolutely amazed if the gun could not handle as stout a round as you can handle shooting out of it. The metal around the barrel sure seems a lot thicker than what you would find on a revolver cylinder to me.

Bond makes one chambered in .45-70 if you can believe that. There's a You Tube video showing a couple of guys shooting it and complaining about their sore hands afterwards.

There's a lot of things in this life which CAN be done. And it seems like there's no lack of folks with little common sense that are happy to ensure that they ARE done.... :D

I've shot some regular power loads in .45Colt from a buddy's Bond. They were not maxed out full power SAMMI spec stuff. But certainly stouter than CAS loads. These were more than enough for my hands.

I do not think Bond makes a barrel for 45/70 but as Rider said I would not want to shoot one. The 45 in a Bond is a hand full but with the larger grip it is not too bad.

Bond Arms guns are made in my hometown of Granbury, TX. I'm good friends with the guy who designed the derringer. He briefly produced a 44 Mag barrel for it, but discontinued it after a very short production run. You can probably imagine why. If you have one, you should probably hang onto it as it will only increase in value.

Also, I can assure you that the pistol is over-engineered and built like a tank. While you should not exceed pressure ratings for any firearm, some people always push the envelope. In my opinion, this derringer is designed to be about as lawyer-proof as possible.

The two reasons I don't use one as my CCW is the footprint is about the same size as my S&W 642 and Ruger LCR and heavier to boot. Plus I get 5 shots with my revolvers. It is a beautiful gun though and an excellent design.
