i plan on trying to trade a cz 2075 p 9mm and my ruger mark iii target at the next gunshow for a glock 23 if i can.
is the trade worth it?
why or why not?

Depending on condition, it sounds like you're trading away too much in return for the Glock

Sounds to me it'd be a great trade. For the person getting the Mark III and CZ2075. And my G23 is my constant companion ... I really like it.

Just as a reference point, the CZ is currently showing $534 at bud's, the Glock is shown at $575. Prices are changing and they do vary from place to place. My wife's Mark III Target was around $475 six months ago. You'd basically be giving away the Mark III.

i paid 450 for my cz and 350 for my ruger. my ruger is the most basic mark iii there is. all i can do is scope it, cant even swap the grips.
basically i know i would lose some money in a trade. my goal is to trade those for a new gen 4 glock 23.

Anytime you trade you loose money. It's up to you if you think the trade is worth it.

No. You know that's not true. Right now I could trade a formally easy to get rifle for a nice revolver or something. Would end up with something more valuable. Argument could be made you should sell...then buy but the blanket statement "anytime you..." just isn't true.

Its up to you. I have traded in at the gun store which is nearly always a bad move.

In a state with a sales tax trade-in value is not taxable, only the difference. That saves you 8% where I live. Regardless, an in-store trade saves you time. So it depends on what your time is worth. Sometimes it's better to git er done at the gun shop, and then go do something productive instead of floating at the gun show like a turd in the pool.

Tonytuna: you didn't say the Glock is new or used. I sure you can count the money without help. That said, go for it. Better the Glock you want than two other pistols you don't. Unlike your cz and the mark3 , the g23 will depreciate very slowly.

The Glock 23 is a great gun, but I wouldn't make the trade if I were you.

First off, I wouldn't want to part with that Mk III - ever. Second, the only way I'd ever trade two guns for one is if I hated both the guns I was getting rid of.

Try to trade the CZ and throw a bit of cash at the deal, instead. You shouldn't have to pay much at all... maybe $150-200 max, and I think that's a high guess (but still better than trading the CZ and the Ruger).

I just went to the local Cabela's today, and they're selling new Gen3 FDE Glocks for $549, and they have a huge selection of em. I saw the 19, 22, 23, 26, 27, and there was another I didn't see the model. Might have been a 30. Point is, they're out there. Glocks were never expensive to begin with, and you can still find em for great prices.

ETA:

In all seriousness, if you like the idea of trading the CZ and throwing some cash at the deal, it wouldn't hurt to go to a Cabela's near you, if you have one. You won't get the most money for your gun, but I know from experience that Cabela's will give you more money for a gun if you plan to buy a new gun there the same day. So while they might give you $250-300 cash for the CZ, you might be able to get $350 in-store-credit toward a NIB G23. Maybe even a bit more. It wouldn't hurt to look into it.

Thanks for advice. I'll see what I can get for the cz and see how much cash I would need to throw in.

All the better. The more you shoot it the better it gets in your hands. I've seen impressive accuracy from subcompact Glocks. No lesser expert than Ayoob wrote that he saw a subcompact win matches against full size.
Value wise, original owner+care=high resale value.
(Disclosure: I have no commercial interest in promoting Glock or anything)

Also would like to mention. The mark 3s resell low because they are in good supply, have limited mostly sporting applications, are less tolerant of abuse than centerfire pistols, and can be a chore to reassemble after cleaning (which leaves many perennially dirty). The compact CZs don't sell as well as the Glocks, for a number of reasons.

Here's to the good times!

I personally am not thrilled about trading in two guns for one. I think somewhere in the transaction you might be losing value in the second gun. I would go with the CZ 2075 and the cash difference for the Glock 23.

Also, the glock would be new.

Until you leave the shop.

Unless you really expect to have a warranty issue, that's not a big deal. I picked up a very low-usage G23, recently, with both a .357 SIG and 9mm conversion barrel, and holster, for $425 -- and it looked like new.

Don't rush to trade two guns. You'd do far better selling them outright.

Always sell yours then buy. I carry a G23 and am happy with it but selling your two will more than cover a Glock. Used G23s are plentiful and personally I wouldn't sell those two unless absolutly necessary.

I traded a CZ 75 Compact + @$100 if I remember correctly for my G17 a few years back & it was the best gun deal I ever made. A new Gen3 G23 is $525.00 locally, I was looking at one this afternoon at the local range & gunshop after my shooting session. I'd like one myself & I'd do the deal

If you know for a fact the G23 is the gun for you and it'll be with you for a long time then do the deal, if not then wait.

Making a trade and worrying about the new gun's value in the next trade is a defeatist attitude unless your whole goal is just to be a trader.

With all that's transpiring in the gun world today I wouldn't take anything for granted in what will be available in the future.
