WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) today released the following statement on President Obama's comments related to gun control legislation:

“In any conversation about how to prevent future tragedies such as Sandy Hook, our focus should be on stopping criminals from obtaining guns. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration has failed to make this a priority — in 2010, out of more than 15,700 fugitives and felons who tried to illegally purchase a firearm, the Obama Justice Department prosecuted only 44. That is unacceptable.

“It is saddening to see the President today, once again, try to take advantage of this tragic murder to promote an agenda that will do nothing to stop violent crime, but will undermine the constitutional rights of all law-abiding Americans. I am committed to working with Sens. Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, and Jim Inhofe--and I hope many other colleagues--to use any procedural means necessary to protect those fundamental rights.”

Exploiting the tragic murder of many. Obama has no limit to his agenda.

How far?

I could only imagine how far I (or those with greater intellect) could take the backing of billions of dollars and promote a positive attitude (universal feeling of greater self accountability), and grow our Nation. The pessimist in me has a very sorry view of the future. Very sorry for my grandchildren, and glad I only have X number of years left in this earthly existence.

I wish there were more like him, Paul, and Lee. We wouldn't have the problems we do if that were the case.

I hope he doesn't get turned on and demonized, I like how he says what needs to be said.

I wrote to Sen. Cruz a while back about a few 2nd amendment issues. No direct response, but it appears I got on the mailing list for my efforts. In his most recent 'newsletter' that covers several topics, it says this about the gun legislation:

Sens. Cruz, Mike Lee (R-UT), and Rand Paul (R-KY) sent a letter today to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) pledging to use any procedural means necessary to ensure Congress does not pass any legislation that would prohibit Americans’ Second Amendment rights. As the Senate prepares to consider guns legislation, Sen. Cruz is committed to ensuring that Americans' right to keep and bear arms is defended and upheld. Congress should not create new legislation restricting the rights of law-abiding Americans. The Democrats' proposed legislation would require universal background checks for private sales between law-abiding citizens, which according to DOJ would be effective only if accompanied by a national gun registry. This raises serious constitutional issues, and would divert resources from prosecuting felons and fugitives who try to illegally purchase guns.

And from a Justice Department that wanted to traffic guns to the Mexican drug dealers.

Senator Cruz rocks, wish he was one of my Senators. One of my daughter is moving to Texas this fall and will benefit from Senator Cruz. Lucky girl.

Senator Sessions pretty much told me the same thing. That was his big thing. As far as he's concerned, before any talk about anything relating to guns is even broached, we better prosecute those who already violate the law.

Annnnd that would be my Senator. TX stand up! We may not have open carry and some archaic laws down here but Texas is leading the fight against the left.

He is my Senator also, I voted for him and Cornyn also and I am not worried about Texas not having Open Carry, I prefer Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!;)

Yep, Cruz is my senator and I voted for him. chris3
Same here. I got onboard in the primary mostly because I didn't care for Dewhurst. Now, I'm really happy for having supported Cruz. We need another 50 like him to really get some things done.

Not really holding my breath for that, but I'm glad to see him fighting.
