Has the demand bubble finally burst?

I think the demand bubble burst earlier in the spring for firearms (end of first quarter-ish). Ammunition will follow. Those that care or pay attention were stocked up on ammunition anyway before this current demand peak.

The demand for AR's seems to have dropped but we are not seeing a lot of them in our area so I can't say for sure. As far as S&W firearms the OP article is missing the point. There are no revolvers to be had as they focused on their semi auto line. I've been looking and haven't found any. High end 1911's are few and far between from anyone.. I would say on the firearm front things are incrementally better as with ammo but this mess is not over yet and I have no idea when it will be over.

For ammo, it hasn't happened yet here in Kentucky ....

Everything I shoot, 9mm, 223, and 308 are available locally in case, 1000 rd, lots now. 22 LR is still MIA.

I bet by fall and winter, the market will be flooded with .22 LRs . Im just praying , lol

Not if the American Caesar gets his way and ignites a major regional war by attacking Syria.

This morning the Lawton, OK Academy store had 500 round boxes of .22 Caliber Winchester Expert for $21.99. The shelves were well stocked with .223 ammo and there were about 25 AR-15 rifles in the racks.

We've seen that movie before and it didn't pan out. Honestly I don't think anyone can figure out when things will return to normal if they ever do.

not here in ky, ammo hard to find

Ammo is everywhere (except .22) but the new norm in pricing is not what it was a few years ago - but then again neither is the price of gas, lettuce or filet mignon

went into academy here in OKC area two days ago to pick up some 45 long colt ammo for a recent purchase. they had a couple variants in stock (self defense rounds and target rounds). long story short, i left with a box of 50 45 long colt target rounds to the tune of 40 freaking dollars, and two boxes (the limit) of cci subsonic 22lr 50 round boxes at 7 bucks a pop. ridiculous. they had 9mm but the stuff like 22lr and 9mm that is in most demand in my area is stocked up front behind the customer service desk and is strictly rationed and price gouging is running rampant.

buds gun shop is still nowhere near back up to normal inventory, but they do have about double the stock they had a few months ago. Things are definitely better, but i'd give it until the end of winter before it starts to get back to "normal".

The inventory of firearms at my local range/gun store is very good with about anything you could want. While his ammo inventory is better, the variety and brands are still limited.

Ammo is certainly available and with a little patience, fortitude, luck and timing deals can be found. I am very well stocked. And shoot often at ranges with nary a soul.

No, ridiculous is you paying their asking prices VOLUNTARILY and then whining about it. You made a choice - you didn't have to pay their price, you were free to walk away - so quit yer bitchin'............

A few new AR's on the rack at the LGS, along with an M&P10 in 243 and an M1A. On the used rack an AR, and a couple each SKS, AK and Mosin. One FN-FAL. Zero 22 and minimal 223.

I haven't been to a gun store or walmart in southern Ohio that hasn't had at least a couple ar's in the past 2-3 months. I reload everything but I still get a kick checking out ammo selection each time to monitor the chaos. shotgun ammo and common durr rifle calibers have always been in stock, "oddballs" like 380acp and 44mag stayed on the shelf first, then 40 and 762x39, then 223 and 45. I haven't seen 9mm or 22 on the shelf since darn near october... nor do I really care lol.

EBR's are back here. Walmart has had a steady inventory of them for a while now. Ammo is comming back. Even in calibers like 223/556 and 7.62x39. 9mm comes in but goes fast and 22 seems to be still made of unobtainium
All in all I think supply is catching up. We just have to exercise patients

If people can only afford .223 or .22LR ammo from "Chinamart" (Wallyworld), assuming that most customers are Not 'flippers' for a profit, then can they really afford to shoot?

There are plenty of places online selling very over-priced .22LR and fairly high .223, based on common "Gunbot" prices over the last three months.

I don't complain if there's nothing I can change by complaining, if I happen to see some 22's reasonable I buy them, if they are unreasonable I leave or buy without bitching if I really really want to shoot that day,
But I will not stand in line for hours waiting on something that is a want not a need, some of the guys I've seen waiting for ammo reminds me of folks waiting at a government cheese line,
Why complain over a couple of bucks extra for ammo then spend $4.00 @ starbucks for 50cents worth of coffee, Save a little elsewhere then use that savings for your ammo.

If history is any indicator, and it usually is

we are looking at another 18 months before things really get back to "normal". It seems a lot of you have really short memories but, it took two years after Obama got elected before you could walk into most any gun store and buy any common ammo ammo any day of the week any time of the day. Our local Wal-marts will get a bunch of ammo some days but most if not all of it is gone noon. In general, you are lucky to find any 380, 9mm, 40 S&W, 38, 357, 44 mag ior 45 ACP on the shelves at Wally world. Our local Cabelas has had some 40, 357 and 45 acp a lot of the time but the prices are so high there is wonder it stays on the shelves. 9mm is still scarce even at Cabelas. 223 is still incredibly hard to find at a decent price. I was one of those guys standing in line at 6:00 am this morning when the doors to my local Wal-mart opened. They had 100 round boxes of Federal 223 for the first time in months. They got 16 boxes and were down to 7 by the time the two other guys and I got ours. The bad news is that the price is up to 40.99 from 34.99. That is a $6 or 17% increase. Their federal Auto match increased by 33% a couple weeks back and their Federal 9mm, 100 round boxes were 19.99 before the panic and is up to $22.99. That is a %15 price increase but it is up 43% since Obama took office. Get use to it fellas, because this is the New Normal. And I will have no problem saying I told you so in 18 months to those of you who will disagree with me.

I am starting to see improvement in ammo in the Springfield, MO area. .45 ACP, .40 S&W, and .223/5.56 are available in almost every Walmart. 9 mm is still hard to find without paying a premium. 22lr is not exactly common, but it is not unheard of.

I think this is wishful thinking that normalcy is starting to return.
