Help me decide SIG P238 or Colt Mustang XSP or standard Mustang

Sig and be done with it I love mine

The stainless Colt is nice, I wish I had one simply because I'm a Colt fanboy (they weren't available when I bought my P238), but it is not IMHO worth $100 more.

The XSP... Is just ugly to me...

The P238 is what I'd recommend unless you really want the Colt. I'm very happy with mine, it's a great little pocket gun.

I carry a P238 quite a bit. Mine is the HD model (all stainless, kind of weighty). It's not a pocket pistol as it's both heavy and I favor condition 1 for this pistol.

Mine rides in a small tuckable kydex/leather holster and I forget I'm packing most of the time. Heck, I have it on me right now and it seeing this post reminded me I haven't taken it off yet.

I still carry a P32 for yard work, but when out and about, I've replaced my P32 with my P238 for "light" days. The P238 is much heavier and a bit thicker then my P32, but overall it's not so much bigger.

About 400 rounds of various FMJs/FMJ-FN and JHPs (primarily Winchester 95gr Rangers Talon) and not a single malfunction to date during the "break in" period. Accurate and incredibly mild recoiling as well.

I was originally planning on an LCP but think I'll like the 1911 style better. I currently have a Diamondback 380 for pocket carry and I'm just not too crazy about the way it shoots.

No, use a holster and you'll be fine. The safety on the Sig (no experience with the Colt) is not likely to accidentally disengage in your pocket, and even if it does that's why you use a holster!

So no worries, pocket carry with confidence.

I carry mine cocked and locked and have no problems with it whatsoever

And I carry a p238 btw

You gotta love the P238. A great little shooter. Sig out did Colt on this one. Now if the Colt came with night sights it might be different situation.

At first I carried it in my pocket, now I just use a belt holster. It hides great under a T shirt. Little gun, big belly.

I have both; a Colt Mustang and a SIG P-238 (black "itron finish, night sights, and rosewood grips). 8 tend to think of the SIG as a product improvement over the Colt, sort of like an upgrade in features and content. Both guns are extremely reliable and sharing a similiar heritage are very easy to carry and shoot. For the money I think the SIG is the better buy.

I have the Colt Government 380 and I love it. I see the SIG more like a shooting and carry piece with better sights than the Colt. For proud ownership I think the stainless Mustang Colt is a better choice: it's nicer and it's the original. I like the plymer version: for carry it could be the best choice.

You can get the Sig using their IOP for less than what you posted, if you qualify (mil, leo, retired mil or leo).

I looked at the Colt Mustang and Sig P238 today. I like both but I liked the Sig better.

Did you order it through the IOP? I've been waiting SIX months...so far.

I had the mustang and p238. Kept the p238. The mustang was a plus II model. I replace the springs every year. She was not reliable. The sig has been 100%. Even with crappy reloads

I've had a 238 HD (steel framed model - slightly heavier than the normal alloy framed versions) for a year and a half. It has become my primary carry gun over that time because I can easily pocket carry it in most cargo pants / cargo shorts / casual slacks using a RKBA rawhide pocket holster - it prints a little but thanks to the holster, it just looks like I have a big smartphone in my pocket.

I believe I paid $599 for mine, which included a Sig-branded OWB kydex holster and 2 6-round (flush fit) magazines.

I have put about 500 rounds through it at the range in the time I've had it. No reliability issues, and it is surprisingly accurate for such a tiny gun. Very little recoil, either (which is good since I can't get my pinky finger onto the grip)

I added a Hogue wrap grip to mine but it's not really necessary, especially if you have smaller hands and can get a full grip on the gun.

I can't imagine paying a premium for the Colt version, personally.

May I add to "story": Have the P238 and the P938 now. Wife carries the P238 and I have moved to P938--bit more impact and only 1/4" longer. Ambi safety makes the difference for me, a left hander. Teach "Intro" handgun classes and after handling 12-15 handguns, the results for "new students" is that the P238 is the choice above all others. Beats the Colt, LCP, and certainly the Taurus, KelTec, etc........

"impact?" IMO impact is irrelivent in handgun calibers. Blood loss or central nervous system hits are everything in these calibers.
