So, I wanted to pose a general question. I frequent NRA commentator and blogger site Mr. Colion Noir. One of his regular posts (iCarry) is pictures of peoples daily carry weapons submitted by visitors.

Something that has been bothering me lately is how many people on this site have been claiming to carry very large and/or expensive guns as their CCW weapons such as Nighthawk 1911's, Dan Wessons, or even a guy pocket carrying a 4'' speed six! Most of them also aren't your typical larger CCW guns either (Glock 19, SR9C, Model 60, etc.) but rather the 'coolest' drool worthy guns that are making all the rags.

My initial reaction is that many of these people are just showing off their favorite gun, not the one they are necessarily carrying.

Am I wrong? Are most people's CCW's full size guns? What is your daily CCW?

p.s. I really am looking to hear from CCW people not so much open carry or duty carry. Thanks!

I'm guessing like you said it's a lot of people just trying to show off one of the better guns they have.

I can't imagine having a $800-1500 gun and throwing it in and out of a holster daily.

I feel like a lot of those guys, if they are CCW, are using cheaper and smaller firearms such as the MP Shield, PF9, LC9, LCP, etc... All still extremely reliable, but at half the price.

That's what I was thinking when I found someone with a Dan Wesson Operator in a 50 buck black hawk holster claiming that was his daily carry. I dunno, I guess I feel out gunned sometimes LOL!

my daily ccw for past 10 years or so has been a wilson combat supergrade compact. i really only have two pistols though (one for ccw and one for matches). most of my friends have 20 or more (way more) cheap handguns. i chose to buy two nice ones instead. i don't think twice about holster wear or the finish. i bought it to shoot. it gets used.

I won't lie, I'm not real familiar with Wilson as they are usually out of my price range but is that a government size or not? I know carrying my govt size 1911 CCW (the few times I attempted it) was a real pain in the a$$!

Model 60 in S & W 38 Special & P. bianchi moulded IWB holster.

Depends on conditions and how I'm dressed. Options include a G27 with Lazermax, a S&W Ladysmith 9mm, a P3AT, one of three AMT Back-ups, one of several .22s, or my Super Blackhawk when I'm carrying my knapsack.
Beats the old days, when my only choices were an 1858 Remington clone and an RG-14.

Since the new "knock out" addition to black culture I started putting the G17 mag into the G26 I carry daily. Might have a whole pack to deal with.

My daily carry is a used SIG P239 that i picked up for $550 in an IWB holster. Added night sights for $100. Also take along 2 spare mags, Benchmade 710, and Opinel #6

Before that I was packing my all stainless p226 that I bought new for $1,200. It got heavy, though, thus the purchase of p239.

I am with Taliv, guns are for shooting, doesn't matter what it costs, if you don't shoot it or carry it, its a waste. Enjoy it!

Mine are. I usually OC an XD. In the winter it is concealed by my coat so I guess that counts.

heh honestly i'm not super familiar with 1911 models but i think it's what they call a commander. it's a 4" barrel and definitely a smaller grip than standard

Well, I don't have any handguns in that price range but if I did, I would carry them. I don't buy guns to sit and look pretty. I buy them to do what they were made to do. Holster wear is just character.

thanks sam, the mix is probably why i get confused.

Well for quite a while there my CCW was a Glock 19 in a Crossbreed Supertuck. But, frankly, I hate the untucked shirt look on me and I could never make the Supertuck work well with a tucked in shirt.

So, I went back to what is my current CCW, a S&W 642 .38 revolver. I can carry it any kind of way. Plenty of gun for any situation a suit wearing, office occupying, suburb dwelling, civilian desk jockey like me will likely encounter!

For me the 642 allows me to follow the adage that "the best carry gun is one that you'll actually carry". So 642 is the first line CCW. The glock still goes into the rotation often enough.

I think most people who respond with a large pistol like that carry it once every week or two, or something along those lines.

Now, as for expensive ones, I'm sure people carry expensive pistols. Why the hell not? What's more important than defense? If your best/favorite/most trustworthy/most-confidence-in-it pistol costs $1,800...carry it! My home defense rifle cost me nearly $3,500 the way it sits, I'm not going to put it in the safe because it's so valuable/expensive, I'm going to leave it ready because it is the rifle I have the most experience and confidence with.

MY actual every-day carry gun is a Glock 26, although I have daily carried a Glock 19 before (for 2 years) and still carry the G19 a lot during the cooler months.

As of Labor Day (got a good mag carrier on sale) I've been every-day carrying a spare G19 magazine either way, as well.

even a guy pocket carrying a 4'' speed six!

I frequently CC a 4'' Security Six. I don't pocket carry though. It goes on a belt holster that rides high and tight and conceals well under an untucked shirt. Other than that I carry J frames.

i don't think twice about holster wear or the finish. i bought it to shoot. it gets used.

Bingo.... I'd swear some of these people thing the expensive ones are only handled with
the finest silk gloves.

All my guns are working guns no safe queens, most in the 6 -800 area.
But some day I may sell of some and by an Ed Brown or custom Willson and
I would carry them (officer comander maybe bobed.)I prefer compact size
like my CZ pcr or G19 for daily carry. My smallest are the XDS 9 And Kimber UCII
These may see some summer carry. But prefer 4" types.

This. Except I carried the 19 for 2 months, not 2 years. I carry my G21 once in a while, whenever I just feel like it, but the 26 is my EDC. It's just a great little gun.

Pretty much a gov't model 1911. It is a VERY easy gun to carry. It also conceals very well with good leather. It's been on me while getting medically evaluated in an ambulance following a roll-over car wreck without being noticed. I've carried it during presentations in front of an audience, while formal dancing in front of a crowd, in police stations, on roller coasters, in business meetings, in the presence of family members who are very "huggy" and in thousands of other environments and have never been "made" (of course, that anyone's mentioned).

The thought that a "full-sized" gun is necessarily difficult or uncomfortable to conceal is foreign to me.
