Service Credit Union has put up no gun signs

So I was walking into my bank to do bank stuff. On my way in I noticed the sign:
No masks
No hats
No sunglasses
No guns
Please remove these items before entering

They might as well put "please don't rob this bank" on the door because that's what the sign is saying. If you're going to commit a couple of felonies at once, a simple sign that pretty much says to do something or be asked to leave isn't going to matter.

I'm offended by this sign that asks me to disarm myself even if I'm withdrawing large amounts of cash. I made a post on their Facebook page and I got was:

Thank you for your post. The sign is to make our members aware of our policies. We employ great security at all of our branches.

Their idea of great security is a little button that calls the cops versus an actual armed guard. Not going to do any good if I'm getting robbed on the way out of the bank.

At least on the bright side, there are other local banks that don't display such signs and also that in NH, that sign means the same thing legally if it said not to wear a red shirt into the bank.

Tell them that you're moving your accounts to their competetors for the security theatre posturing. The sign is meaningless and unless they are willing to provide an escort to/from your vehicle they've made you more subject to robbery and less safe.

That is a shame, I have a account there. Mostly I use a smaller local bank (lake Sunapee) which has treated me very well and never put up any signs like that.

I do business with several different banks and credit unions. I see those signs on most. In Utah, a "No Guns" sign does not have the power of law, IIRC. So I simply don't advertise that I have one in my pocket.
Oh, and I remove my sunglasses.

If someone were to see one in my pocket and ask me to leave? I would leave.

But you might write a letter to the branch manager and CU pres, courteously outlining your opinion and disappointment.

If I were a member I would do more than just ask on their facebook page. I would try to send an executive email blast and let them know I'd be closing my account (easier to do if you don't have lines of credit open) and telling friends/family to do likewise until their policy is changed to coincide with the law.

You say they wrote back that they employ "great security" at all of their branches. How about replying to that message and ask them to define "great security." Perhaps you could go so far as to ask why you were able to enter on countless occasions (prior to the sign's posting, of course!) while armed with a firearm without being challenged in the past (and why no carnage resulted!)

They may have "great security" inside... but what am I, as a customer, supposed to do? Leave my gun laying on the seat of my motorcycle, which has no storage of any kind?

If they had a vestibule with lockers it might be different, but even the dumbest criminal knows that people walking out of banks are often carrying cash.

Sure they won't know but why support a business that doesn't support your beliefs and rights?

Certain religions require that you keep a hat on at all times.

Are they going to impinge on the religious beliefs of these people by requiring them to remove their hat?

I prefer the "please remove ski mask and put gun away before entering" signs.

^^ Private property: their rules. I don't think they should be required to accept religious beliefs any more than they should have to accept ours. Those who wish not to remove headgear could simply do what we preach should be done, and that is to either take our business elsewhere, or diplomatically work with the proprietors to permit exceptions.

Why is the 1st amendment considered more important than the 2nd? All the first 10 outlining your God given rights are equally important.

I always ask the financial institution prior to opening an account if they restrict firearms. I refuse to do business with anyone that is posted, and I always try to inform them that they lost a customer if they do restrict.

My bank has that sign posted on the door also. I just ignore it and walk in with my hat and my sunglasses and my concealed pistol. No one has ever said anything to me about it. If they do I'll immediately close my accounts and tell them why.(while wearing my hat and my sunglasses)

Been awhile since I first created this. Me and my wife are going to be looking at new banks. I feel very unwelcome there because I am not going to disarm before entering and I don't want to deal with that bank anymore. If I have to get some cash, I either send my wife or go to the drive through.

Maybe I'll go in again at some point and see if they removed the sign. Probably not though.
