I was just at the NE Minnespolis UPS distribution center. They have a "UPS bans guns in theses premises" sign next to the door to the customer counter.

Do they have similar signs in other astates (I've not heard of any) or are they just discriminating against responsible, competent, adult Minnesota carry permit hoilders?

As of Friday, FedEx had no signs.

I'm going to send me personal packages by FedEx Ground.
Ask those who ship to me to use a carrier othere than UPS.
Direct my business' shipping manager to cease using UPS and to ask our suppliers to ship to us by another carrier.
And spread this information far and wide.
UPS needs to feel the gun owner lash in Minnesota and in every other state.
There is competition, we should support it.

Concealed means no one has to know whether you're carrying.

Properly wrapped, and shipped, means no one has to know what you're shipping.

UPS is the highest volume shipper; in theory anyway, your package should be more safe with them based solely on the number of other packages. No matter who you use, keep transit times short, ship early in the week to avoid theft over weekends, and insure for full value.

:D

Fed Ex wants all guns completely disassembled? Field strip or a bag of parts? Can you imagine shipping (insured of course) an expensive engraved and relief carved gun all stripped to pieces? Scratch. OWWWW!

I honestly don't know what the policy is here. I haven't been in one in a long long time.
UPS makes p/u and deliveries to my gunsmith buddy, I use him.

When I don't -on rare occaisons, or when my mom needs to send something to grandkids, I again don't use the big boys.

There is small private facility that has PO boxes, sends/ recieves UPS, USPS, Fed-Ex, and some other delivery means. There is NO signage against CCW. They will even wrap the toys/clothes...etc and suggest to Mom the best and most cost effective means of sending, Prices are very competitive and reasonable.

I have sent firearms through them with no problems. I either buy postage stamps from them or the grocery store. Dunno, but I hate standing in long lines and prefer to not frequent places that I can't CCW or a big deal about my right to do so. My monies/time...I choose accordingly.

WonderNine says "Well Fedex is the one that came up with the rule recently where all firearms shipped must be completely dissasembled."

Not correct as of last Friday.

I spoke with the local UPS Health and Safety manager about their local business decision to "post" their customer counter in Minneapolis against lawful carry of pistols under a permit.

Initially he wanted to talk about HOW a company legally posts not the business decision as to WHETHER to post. He acknowledged that Target, Sears, Wells Fargo, Bierlys, etc do not post although they are open to "the public" too. He also seemed to be aware that UPS does not post in many other states which issue carry permits. He continually tried to blame the "lawyers" for the local UPS management's BUSINESS DECISION. He said he has a Minnesota permit and understands that only checked-out good guys with extensive training get permits.

He complained about calls from anti-gun groups and liability concerns (which he knows are no different at Target). Eventually he brought up employees but he knew that the sign is unnecessary to deal with employees.

That leaves customers.

I made clear that my issue wasn't the size/text/lettering/location of the sign itself but the business decision to (1) ban the good guys and (2) to DISCRIMINATE against permit holders in Minnesota when UPS does not do so in other states. He had no answer to the question "what makes MINNESOTA permit holders so dangerous when UPS' permit carrying customers aren't banned in other states." He really did not want to address that point!

I plan to take the discrimination point up with UPS higher-ups (and the internet).

Read that PO warning poster very carefully. It refers to parts (a) and (b) of the law prohibiting possession...but very interestingly leaves out the reference to part (c) which exempts possession for all lawful purposes.

This thread is about UPS - "United Parcel Service" not about the USPS.

He complained about calls from anti-gun groups and liability concerns ...
I suspect these are the REAL reasons.

The average person on the street is influenced by the media. The media also informs the average person of lawsuits. Media passes along how the 911 and be submissive is best. Businesses , even such as UPS want to have a positive image with the average person, this is where the money comes from afterall.

This is one area I feel we need to make the RKBA more aware to various businesses. Where we need to point out the skewed statistics used by anit's to persuade and plead their case. Average citizen is more interested in what famous person is getting arrested, whom is getting married/divorced, or new movies being released than important events and matters. Matters like L&P, Constituional rulings, RKBA and the list goes on. Sad ain't it ?

Well many here have sent valid info with links, references and documentation to numerous entities. Maybe we need to send some corrrespondence to your UPS office and such. Maybe UPS themselves...understanding the jurisdictions of some areas, don't allow CCW at all.

UPS does not post nor have I ever seen any business, bar or establishment of any kind post no CCW in Mass.

I don't think you're supposed to carry at Fenway or the Fleetcenter but I've never known anyone to have a problem, even one friend who was discovered at Fenway at the new gate on Yawkey.

Well, they do here in Texas, at least at the location closest to me. Fedex doesn't. Guess where I go.

The local UPS office (Texas) has a "No handguns" sign outside the door but its just for show. It doesn't meet the required standard (PC 30.06) to prohibit firearms, so I just ignore it.

If they were serious, they'd post a 30.06. Their sign isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

No anti-gun signs here

I live in the metro Atlanta area where the UPS headquarters is located. I have not seen any gun prohibition signs at their pick up counter nor any where else on their premises here.

I guess the anti-gun actions are being left up to local management. At the least there should be uniformity within their company nationwide, but I'm sure they know that gun control plays well up north and they can get away with it there but they wouldn't dare try it here. Their stock price would plunge overnight if they stirred up the locals and told them their guns weren't welcome in their stores. Afterall, Federal Express is always a distant second to them and they pick up the slack whenever there is a UPS labor strike. I'm sure they don't want to do anything to give Fed-Ex the drop on them.
