What is your prefered CLP for your gun?

I use Butch's bore shine in my barrels, Hoppe's #9 for the cylinder chambers, and a final coating of Mobil 1 for storage/protection.

Breakfree CLP was the best for many years until Safariland bought the name and "improved" it. It no longer meets the Mil Spec for use by our military. G96 CLP and Royco CLP are currently the only products we "civilians" can buy that does meet the spec. G96 is more expensive than Breakfree and Royco seems to only be available in 5 gal. buckets and 55 gal. drums. But Breakfree CLP is still a pretty good lube and protectant and it's commonly available. For the last 6 years I have been using Breakfree Collector (a protectant only) on all of my safe queens and it is working very well. As far as protection using any good light oil will protect your guns, just don't forget to check on them and allow the oil to evaporate away. Eezox is also a VERY good product for lube and protection. It has come out on top in most of the corrosion tests I have seen (as well as Breakfree CLP.)

Hoppes #9 and G96 Complete Gun Spray are my main 2 for over 35 years. I have some of the other stuff I've used here and there. The Outers Bore Foam is good stuff for dirty milsurp barrels. Always swab corrosive ammo with a water based cleaner. Dollar store "windex" ammonia glass cleaner is great for the initial decorrosive swab. Then any of the normal solvents. I also have some Ballistol I'm trying. Suppose to be great stuff with a long track record.

I clean barrels with Shooter's choice or Sweet's.
I use Gunscrubber for general cleaning.
I lube with Triflow and Shooter's choice or Superlube grease
I prevent rust with Breakfree COLLECTOR oil (not regular Breakfree CLP) Amazing stuff.

Based on posts and PM’s here and on other sites where I made the same request, I begun to generate a list of the rust inhibitors that I will secure for this evaluation. The product list thus far is. In no particular order

Time to break out the credit card. Based on web searches, the shipping on some of this stuff is nearly as high as the product itself. This may end up costing a small fortune but I will have a lifetime supply of gun care products when Im finished.

If it's rust protection you're after, the Breakfree COLLECTOR and LPS3 should be on the list.

Thanks for that natman. I left LPS3 off because of the self-healing, waxy film it leaves on the metal. Gun owners wont care for the gum up and gunk and waxy film in the actions of their guns.

Brownells has a product called AdvantageCLP that IMO works better than Break-Free. Seems like the AdvantageCLP emulsifies the powder fouling and loosens it up faster and better than Break-Free and also seems to be a slicker lubricant than Break-Free.

Brownells AdvantageCLP is my current favorite CLP.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

They're why I procure my stuff from National Auto & Home Depot.
Lol

LPS3 is only suitable for long term storage. For everyday use Collector is a much better choice.

If I'm not mistaken, the product you have listed as "Fluid Fill" is actually a product called FLUID FILM. Great stuff. I use it mostly with my blackpowder guns. Kinda hard to find. Last I knew John Deere dealers sold it. It's mostly used in industrial/commercial applications.

Good stuff. I use it on my tractor's balls. No, not that kind, the ones on the hitch. :)

I'm a Ham and spray all my antenna mounting hardware too.

Still waiting on the brown truck, FedX and the mailman to stop buy to deliver all the purchases but I think im about done buying gun care products for this evaluation. I’ll stop at 40 products. Here is the list. I’ll be at a gun show on Friday and unless there is a product there I don’t have on the list. I think I’ll get going on the evaluation.

I still have some bottles of the original Break Free (not CLP) that I use, but as those are winding down I am switching over entirely to three products:

1 Johnson's Paste Wax for long term storage and weatherproofing hunting guns.

2 Grease for auto pistol slide rails (Militec, TetraGun, Lubriplate, RIG, etc)

3 Red lube for everything else*

For cleaning I use a somewhat random assortment of bottles I've bought over the years, but I'm convinced that all I really need are Hoppe's, Shooter's Choice and Sweet's 7.62.

* Red lube = 50% ATF + 25% STP + 25% Mobil 1
