BE-86

I'm sorry. Yes, it was 40S&W. Glock G22 with a KKM barrel.
All shots were at 21', no bench rest.
Fairly well pleased with BE-86. Cleaner than Bullseye or the 800X.
I need to work up a better load for the 135gr or just leave that bullet alone!
Congratulations!
Looks like you've got a winning load for 180gr plated for your.40!!

I was at the gun show in Raleigh NC. Several vendors had BE-86. The best price I saw was $22 which included tax. Plenty of it to be had.

I see Paul from Alliant came through on my request for a BE-86 recipe for 41 mag. I was on Alliant's web site this morning and there it was.

Much appreciated Paul and will be trying it out at my first opertunity.

That will be my next test, but it will be a little while for me to load some and get to the range.

I'll be loading 9.8- 10.8grs with 210 gr plated bullet for a max of 1228fps nomonally.
I'm not expecting 2400 accuracy with these loads but I sure am going to find out.

Thanks again
Brian

We only have one place in town that carries powder, and the powder/primer guy at the gun shows. The store doesn't have any, the P/P guy hasn't had much of anything lately, and wasn't even here this time. One of these days.

Only one guy in my town too, I feel your pain. He pretty much charges what he wants. Thought about opening up my own place but dont have the cajoles.

Loaded 800 124 grain extra thick plated RMR 9mm, 5.4-5.5 grains BE-86 at 1.120 this weekend.

Range time!

Thanks to all for posting their work with BE-86 in this thread. I picked up a pound of it awhile back and have been considering it for target 9mm and low to mid range 357 loads.

My intent is to use it as a substitute for HS-6 in the 9 and Unique in the 357.

I just tried BE-86 in my 41 magnum. According to Alliant's web site 10.8 gr is max load for 210 gr, I started out with 35 rounds loaded at 10 gr and was really surprised as to the recoil it generated. It had a lot more recoil than I expected, but it also was nothing like shooting full house magnums either.
I noticed it shot lower than it typically did with my power pistol loads of 9 gr which is pleasant to shoot.

I was shooting 25 yd off hand, standing and shot about a 4"group with it.

I am definitely going to work with this caliber and this powder with my limited time. I'm going to jump down to 9 gr and work up from that. My power pistol loads are really fun to shoot at 9gr and is surprisingly accurate.
I am going to build a sling to shoot from, they are allowed at the indoor range I shoot at. I'll be able to accurately shoot to test loads then.

Received my BE-86 from Recobs on Friday. Loaded some 45acp's on Sunday morning. Hit the range that afternoon. Just as everyone else has found, the lower throws work great. I shot both 200gr lswc and 230gr rn lead and found both accurate at 10% or less than listed max. I really liked 5.4 gr under the 230 gr lrn. I started at 5.4 and went up to 6.0 in 0.2 increments. The 6.0 was just too hot for me personally to shoot a couple of hundred of in one day. I was shooting out of a XDS-45. The recoil of the 5.4gr was mild, ejection was good and accuracy was good. I'm still working on a load under the 200gr lswc. It will be less than 10% of the max recommended by Alliant. I'll also be trying it in 9mm, 38sps and 357. The 38 looks promising, but (with head held low) I do like the "magnum" feel when that 6" GP-100 goes bang. I am impressed this powder works well in lighter loads without issues like others. So far y'all's results in the 9mm are impressive, so I would expect no less.

Has anyone tried it with magnum primers? I know some powders get erratic with these and accuracy stinks. If no one has tried, I will give it a whirl and let y'all know.

The 9mm rounds rock. This is the most accurate 9mm I have loaded. 1.120, 5.4-5.5 grains with the RMR 124 grain extra thick plate RN. Here's whats left. I need more BE-86!

It would have to beat out N320 for 9MM range fodder for me, but that isn't the main thing I want to try it for.

I tried them in my 686 6' pushing a 158 coated LSWC. Accuracy was very good at -10% of Max.(cant find my notes) Lost accuracy as the charge went up. Definitely not that Magnum feel.

I have tried BE86 in all the calibers I own and anything over midrange starts to suffer in accuracy. I havent tried 9mm 147FP that I have loaded. Hopefully this week I will.

Please share your .45 success! I had less than spectacular results with 230 grain RN, with other powders outperforming it.
The 2 BE-86 .45ACP 230gr "RN" loads that I settled on (in 10rd testing strings I found both to be accurate thru an RIA 1911 5" fired at ~7yds):

FMJ 6.5gr 800.7fps/avg 44.5/es 14.7/sd
LRN 6.0gr 814.5fps/avg 42.7/es 13.0/sd

As with all test strings, I carefully trickle-weighed each throw. According to my notes, the FMJ load was slightly more accurate then the LRN.

HTH.

RussellC,
I am awaiting your results with great anticipation!
Just received some 124gr extra thick plated RMR 9mm bullets today!

Here's some range results today: For me, this very good...lol between 7 and 10 yards, not rapid fire but steady beat none the less, 17 rounds from Glock 17. Second target a little better.
