New Glock 42

I had the good fortune to win a 42 at a raffle conducted by a LGS.
(I had to buy a gun to enter the raffle.)

I’ve never owned a Glock before and have very limited experience with them having put a couple of mags through a 26 and a 19 several years ago.

So I’m definitely not a Glock fan boy but don’t have any negative associations with them either. They just never flipped my bits for whatever reason.

I didn’t know what to expect from the 380 when shot from a handgun this size having only shot 380 through a steel Beretta (84 I think?) long ago.

My initial impressions after sharing a box of ammo with my wife:
1. Trigger was much stiffer than I anticipated; don’t remember the 19/26 being nearly so heavy.
2. The gun was reasonably accurate although I only shot it at 7 yards.
3. Recoil was not an issue.
4. I ended up kind of liking the little guy.

My wife also liked it. She has been looking for a carry pistol and has looked at: Shield, M&P9c, LC9, LC9s, Walther PPS, Glock 26 and probably some others that I’ve forgotten.
We've looked at the 43 but the current pricing is out of line with reality as far as I'm concerned.

I think she’s decided that the 42 is for her. At least for the near term.

We're probably going to look into some aftermarket trigger options if it doesn’t settle down more than a little.

Recently got a 42...I like it. My wife claimed it right away but she's gotta shoot it some before I turn it over to her.

I carry it sometimes loaded with Double Tap 95 gr. JHP's. Box ends states 1085 fps from a 3.5" barrel. Don't know if it actually is that fast but compared to all other ammo I've shot in it the Double Tap is a hand smacker.

The trigger on the 42 isn't like other Glock triggers imo. No mushy feel from what I remember shooting other Glocks.
I too am not a fan boy, in fact I don't really care for them enough to buy one. That being said, I have said before I like the g42. Trigger is quite heavy, but considering some will pocket carry the 42, it's probably better left alone.

As far as accurate? The g42 really surprised me in that department.

Good luck with your 42. It may not be the smallest .380 pistols, but it sure ranks high on my list,

The Glock 42 trigger is supposed to be 5.5 lbs as stated on the box, but it's averaging more like 7-8 lbs.

That being said, I bought one for my Wife's birthday and she absolutely loves it. The only other gun she would shoot before the Glock was her Ruger SR22P. I feel much better with her having a .380 than a .22LR.

The only thing to look out for is that there is very little clearance between the bullet nose and the slide stop follower tab, so some ammunition may cause premature lockback. Glock redesigned the part and eliminated about 90% of the problem, but some bullet shapes may still have the issue occasionally.

F-111 John: What ammo have you had a chance to put through it so far?

Any more data on what bullet shapes or ammo is likely to cause problems? Any particular HP ammo causing problems to your knowledge?

We went through a box of Fiochii 95 FMJ and had no issues which I was happy to note.

Cocked & Locked: That Double Tap is intriguing. I've also looked at Underwood. Both have impressive specs for a 380. Any issues with the Double Tap?

No mush, that's for sure... A bit of a wall to climb over though...

Why didn't you just buy 9x19 subcompact? The 95gr load in that caliber moves at over 1300fps with many other options available at lower prices than 9x17.

9mm sub-compact for me = Ouch!

Because I didn't want to.

I also have SIG P230 and Walther PPK/s .380 pistols.

I've got too many 9mm pistols already. When I do carry a subcompact 9mm (only have one) it is a Kel Tec PF9. Rough on arthritic fingers.

S&W Shield usually wins out when I carry a less than full size 9mm.

Or another smallish but not sub-compact S&W.

I checked out the Gluck 42 and went with the SIG p938. Haven't looked back.

The 42 will be more accurate than most of the others mentioned. I own one plus most of the others too. LC9 goes on sale for $250 @ PSA and it is good strictly for CCW. LCP same. Look at a Bersa Thunder if you want a metal frame .22 or .380.

My SIG P230 and Glock 42 are equally accurate...much more so than my Walther. I don't care for the little Ruger and Kel Tec .380's...too small for my liking.

First of all, congratulations. A free Glock, cool.

As far as the trigger, mine hasn't smoothed out at all. But I am getting used to it. I put the trigger right on the joint of my finger.
The trigger pull is the stiffest of any Glock I have shot, but it seems to shoot where I point it, so for now its cool.

For ammo, mine has never missed a beat with XTP's. They may not be the latest and greatest but I wouldn't want to get shot with one.

Ball ammo works best with this . Hollow points have a little trouble but I polished my ramp feed a bit and it took care of the issue. I use Glock 42 as my conceal carry and I love it.
