On several other forums there seems to be a lot of dislike for the no in. 45 cap but in. 40 and 9mm its most people's go to gun....why? Does it have problems in that caliber or something?

Can't say I have ever read such. I have seen the opposite - a LOT of praise of the M&P 45 though I don't own any M&P myself other than the 22 Compact..

I haven't noticed any M&P hate. They are generally well thought of around here. Even those who prefer something else don't hate on the M&P. I have a buddy with a 9MM and a .45 ACP M&P and he loves both of them.

I've owned M&P AR 5.56, AR .22LR, full size 9mm, full size .45ACP, and Shield 9s. I've trade off the ARs, and the full size 9mm, but the .45ACP stays here. It's my bedside gun, with 10+1 hollow points. Awesome ergonomics, great trigger, accurate right out of the box, and who can argue with 11 rounds of .45ACP?
No hate here. The only reason I've ever gotten rid of an M&P was to trade for something I wanted more, since I had duplicates anyway.

I have not seen any M&P 45 hate .

The only complaints that I have heard is accuracy in the M&P 9 @ 25 yds. and some don't like the triggers . I had none of those complaints with the one I rented .

I watched Dave Olhasso win the CDP division at IDPA nationals in 2008 with an M&P 45. Seemed to work ok and no one was hating it, except maybe for all the 1911 guys he beat for the win...

What exactly does leading inflammatory titles mean?

I think he just means inferring "M&P .45 Hate" when most here are not seeing any such thing.

I personally have no experience with the .45 M&P (love my 9mm one though), but I haven't seen anyone really complain about them at all.

I see more dislike for the 9MM version of the M&P on the various forums.

I've seen some complaints about the mag springs on the .45 versions, but I think that has been corrected.

The 9MM models seem to have had a few issues that S&W still seems to be sorting out.

I have not seen the negative comments. I suggest you follow those discussions you talk of and ask for clarification there.

I've tried M&P45's out a few times, I know people that like theirs a lot and shoot them very well, more power to them. I just shoot my other 45's better.

I asked in the other forums and got two answers one was just" its a piece of ****"pretty much and the other was the 9mm and. 40 are better for that platform. .........I was curious if that was true....but I'm guessing not,

Here are some M&P articles from Modern Service Weapons that you may want to read. Hilton Yam's opinion seems to mirror the consensus of most of the opinions of the M&P line-up I've read. The key lines from author Hilton Yam are the following.

Glock vs M&P…or why I shoot an M&P http://modernserviceweapons.com/?p=171

For purposes of discussion below, I will be comparing the Glock 17 vs. the M&P 9mm full sized model. If we were comparing the Glock 21 to the M&P 45, then let’s just stop here and declare the M&P .45 the winner and move on. Superior ergonomics by far, good accuracy, and availability of thumb safety to help transition 1911 shooters make the M&P 45 the clear winner in my opinion. Add a viable and reliable factory 14 round magazine, and you pretty much have the whole package wrapped up with a bow. Same with .40 – the M&P was designed for the .40, with steel chassis for increased rigidity and none of the durability or function issues of the Glock 22. Oddly, the 9mm was shoehorned into the M&P platform rather than the reverse which is true for Glock, and it is therefore the weakest model of the M&P. So why do I shoot one all the time?

I had one for a little while the trigger was atrocious, even with aftermarket parts. So the gun went down the road. Dont think I would call it hate. just never grew on me, like a looong list of other guns...

M & p 45

I have 3 M & Ps- a full size 9, full size 45 and a 40C. I like them all very much. I must say that of the 3 my 45 is the most accurate in my hands. It is dead on with a specific load. I can't explain why because it is heavier and has a heavier trigger than the other 2. I have never heard any bad mouthing even from Glock people. After many years of building semis' that were just so-so,S & W finally got it right. I haven't done any trigger work although Apex trigger kits are on the horizon just to make a good gun better.:)

I think Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn referred to the MP .45 as one of the only two modern designs they'd consider for a combat .45 (the other being the HK45). I've never heard the hate either.

I like my "mid size" M&P 45 fine. Even though the trigger isn't great, I shoot it better than anything else I own.

I do know the 45 is different from the 9 and 40 because fewer parts interchange in the trigger group. I would guess that the frame is larger, since that is the norm on 45s that are part of a family.

The only complaints that I have heard is accuracy in the M&P 9 @ 25 yds. and some don't like the triggers .
Those situations seemed to have been pretty much resolved with the new releases. Barrel issues were addressed, and the new M&Ps have a distinct reset, much crisper trigger.

We had some early breakage issues with our original M&P-45s, but none since that I'm aware of ...

Just read Yam's piece -- that was from late 2012 -- people who haven't picked up any M&P since then should know that the current M&Ps are much improved.

(no, I'm not a shill for S&W, just guy who is issued the M&P but prefers to carry 1911s or SIGs off-duty but acknowledges the M&P as a worthy pistol)

Because it's not a Glock....

To many folks there's only one brand of pistol and all others are made for idiots that don't know better.

The M&P45 steps on their toes (along with all others)

I also have not heard the hate of M&P 45s. My wife likes it over 1911s, which I prefer. Doesn't mean I hate it. I love the M&P9, just make my .45 a 1911.
