Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but it seems that S&W does not offer a compact model of the M&P 45. Is there any reason for this? I would love to have one of these, but it seems as though it is not in their lineup the way the "C" models are for 9mm and 40...anyone know if it might be coming?

I am told they now have an 8-shot "compact" .45, but it is not as small as the 9mm or .40 compacts, more the size of a Glock 19. Unfortunately, Smith's website seems to be down or malfunctioning.

The M&P 45 Compact has been out for a while.

Download the first part of the 2008 Product Guide and look at the various models available. It's a bit large and .pdf format so it might take a while, depending on your connection.

Here's the link to just the Product Spec Sheet for the M&P 45 compact. Faster loading than the first third of the catalog.

M&P 45c

The M&P 45c compact has been out and on the shelves for quite some time. It's a tad larger than the 9 or 40 but not much.
It's a great little 45 pistol and I don't think you can beat it for the money. My buddy loves his and the gun is accurate, reliable and soft shooting.

Isn't the capacity of the fullsized MP45 10 rounds, the compact eight rounds? If so, not a large difference in the sizes.

On that, is the full sized M&P45 the same size as the full size M&P in 9mm?

I've just yesterday received a full sized M&P9 and was somewhat surprised to find that the pistol is only a little bit larger than my Glock 19. This is why I ask about the .45 version - if it too is barely larger than a Glock 19 I'd be interested in obtaning a .45 M&P to replace my XD45 Tactical.

Your correct on the capacity. As to the size differences????? I've owned the M&P 9 and 40 compacts and the 45 FS. All three were great pistols and they love their new homes with my son and daughtor(she has the 9mm). I've also had a Glock 26 and 19 and didn't care for either. Very dependable, but not too accurate and have poor triggers.
Again, I will say that I think the Smith and Wesson M&P series pistols are the best on the market for the price (there are many other priced much more that are far less gun) which is in my opinion under priced for such excellent quality and engineering that went into the development of the M&P pistols.
