Unknown build of a Yugo M70 parts kit.

Serial anyplace but the bolt?

Perhaps built from a 'flat'* most likely, so no serial number required. That said, someone didn't spend enough time on prepping that flat for paint.



*similar to building from an 80% lower.

Kit built Yugo, as previously stated.

Should also have a bulged receiver to be correct for the M70. May want to find out if it's the original Yugo barrel or a US barrel as well.

It's my understanding that a serial is not required for home build IF the builder intends to keep the gun for personal use.
Serial IS required if sold.

That front sight looks to be the one that shuts off the gas system when raised, indeed for grenade launching.

No, not legally required. "Suggested" but not required by law. The section of law the ATF quotes when suggesting that a gun should be serialized before sale is a section pertaining to NFA firearms, NOT regular "GCA" firearms. Kind of a funny bit of textual sleight-of-hand there.

I agree with Yugo kit.

how much? check out how straight it is from top to bottom... I'd see how straight it shoots before handing over cash.

It's definitely a Yugo kit, though the trunion isn't Yugo as far as I know. The Yugo trunions were wider. If self-manufactured, I would suspect whether or not the receiver was properly heat-treated. It might have been, I don't know enough about flats to make a judgement. But I do remember the B-West AK's that were not heat treated and were beat to heck in short order.

Actually, that would depend on the variant of M70. The bulged RPK style receiver is the most common. The first variants were milled and supposedly they even made flat receiver rifles, besides the flat receiver N-PAP.

Looks like a home-built AK that I would avoid. $550 will buy you a new factory-built WASR or Yugo NPAP.

Its a Kalashnikov based rifle, but it is not an AK47. Four clues it is a Yugo M70.
o the three cooling slots in the handguard,
o the flip-up night sights in the rear sight and front post,
o the grenade launcher sight (that also cuts off the gas system to use blanks)
o the black rubber butt plate on the fixed buttstock.

However, it does not appear to have the bulged "RPK" style trunion of a true M70 (I own an M70AB2 so I immediately cue on the forearm and grenade launcher sight as Yugo). The flat "AKM" style trunion makes it appear to be a PAP M70 civilian import version (or a kit build in that style, since the commercial versions usually have nicer finish on the receiver).

The bulged "RPK" style trunion strengthens to gun to withstand repeated grenade launchings. I'm afraid that the "AKM" style receiver implies this is not a good candidate for conventional grenade launching. However, it should accept the BGP 40mm under-slung grenade launcher that mounts below the forestock in the style of the M203 grenade launcher for the U.S. M16 rifle/M4 carbine series (ouch I bit my tongue--that happens when I keep in cheek to long).


ADDED: The spring loaded button is added to prevent the receiver cover from popping off under recoil of firing a grenade. It's not really there to assist removing the receiver cover; it makes it harder to remove the receiver cover.

Wrong. Serial number is not needed for later sale. The only time a home built needs a serial number is if it is NFA.
