A cheaper alternative to a Kimber, STI, or Wilson double stack 1911 is the Springfield Armory double stack 1911. It's basically a black parkerized G.I. model with a 12 round capacity. Deadly accurate guns, and can be had used for about $500.

Milled receivers are bringing up to $1400 depending on condition. I STOLE one from a guy who didn't know what he was selling about a year ago for $750. He now is offering me $1300 on the same gun. Mine is also a Vector milled receiver, except its a fixed stock.
